In Menards/Independence/shenanigans news:
Plans for a well-known home improvement store to locate in Independence appear to be on hold for now, and company officials are blaming President Barack Obama ... “I’m very sorry, but we are a family-owned business and with the Obama administration scaring the dickens out of all small businesses in the USA at present, we have decided not to risk expansion until things are more settled,” Menards spokesman Jeff Abbott said in an email Friday. “Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

The third largest home improvement chain with 270 stores, and 45,000 employees, and estimated sales of $8 billion, is just a lil' ole family run business with the dickens scared out of them....

Really? Look, I get it, they are nervous about the economy (maybe). I bet they are REALLY nervous about healthcare. The billionaire founder of the company gave at least $1 million to the Kock brothers PAC to to defeat the President. But can they please stop with the faux, aw-shucks mien. They are a huge company with a very powerful family running it.

Council members did approve project 3 in the I-70 and Little Blue Parkway TIF, which encompasses Crackerneck Center. That area is bounded by Interstate 470 to the east; by U.S. 40 to the south; by Cochise Court, 46th Terrace and Bass Pro Drive to the west; and by vacant, wooded land to the south. Retail, a car wash and several restaurants are planned for that development.
http://www.examiner.net/news/x401620268/New-neighbors Lamberts maybe but just rumor Jim Autry and several other Eastern Jackson County residents have e-mailed me with inquires about Lambert’s Café opening a location near Bass Pro Shops. Well, it looks like there aren’t going to be any throwed rolls in Independence soon.

The Lambert’s rumor is just a rumor with no validation.

“That’s the most persistent rumor that we’ve heard,” said Byron Constance, one of the developers of The Falls and an Independence attorney. “We’ve contacted Lambert’s and informed them of the opportunity, but we have received no favorable response as of this date. That would be a really good match and we’d love to have them, but realistically, they do not appear interested in expanding into the Kansas City market.”

Yeap its a Stoney Creek Inn, they actually look like a decent hotel chain but they mainly operate in really small metros like St Joe, Wausau and LaCrosse Wisconsin.
