First pre-season game this Saturday 7:05 vs. Harris-Stowe at Swinney Rec Center. The regular season gets underway November 11 at Kansas.

Some interesting games - at Arizona, vs. Wichita State here in KC, at Kansas, at Missouri.

Why can Kansas & Missouri come here to play... at the Sprint Center?  How awesome would that be?

In any event, it kind of suck that the Roos have to start the season... at Kansas!  ](*,)

They are. KU plays Ohio December 14, Mizzou will likely play there Nov 19-20.

That's cool, too!

But what I meant was how awesome would it be if Kansas & Missouri came to the Sprint Center to play UMKC?   :D

It's nice to see both KU and MU invite their poor cousin from KC over to get whallopped in exchange for a nice check.

It must stink to be a player at a "mid-major" like UMKC knowing that each season will start off with some road games to big traditional basketball schools that will all beat you by 50 points or so.  But all those smaller programs need the revenue that comes from being a sacrificial lamb.

Its not just the check - there is always the off chance during the early going that they catch one of them flat or unperfected and pull off an upset - which in the case of Kansas would be a major, major national exposure coup.  Its not unheard of for even very talented teams to start the year with less than optimal chemistry and/or execution.

Hey, it's possible for UMKC to beat Big 12 schools.  A few years ago, they beat K-State by 40 points.

So, it's possible (just not likely).

Its also possible for them to occasionaly loose to NAIA division II teams - Go William Jewell Cardinals!

Roos look pretty good against a much more talented KU team. Really holding their own. I think the West Virginia-style coaching of Matt Brown will lead to a very exciting brand of basketball at UMKC this year. They should put up a lot of threes this year, and it looks like they have some decent shooters.

It's also possible for two Big 10 schools to lose to DII schools already this year and for Kentucky to lose to Gardner Webb and for USC to lose to Mercer.

Hate on the Roos all you want, but they played their butts off tonight versus KU.  Roos were down by 10 with about 7 minutes left in the game.  KU stretched it out (as they should considering their talent level) late, but the Roos had nothing to be ashamed of.  If they play like this all year, what a season they'll have.

I was impressed by the way UMKC played against KU.  They never gave up.  But, in the end, their lack of inside scoring ability, lesser talent across the board and dependence on 3 pt shooting was their downfall.

They will be extremely competitive this year, though, if they play all their games with the same intensity.

Roos hung tough against a Top 25 team in Arizona. At one point they lead 20-16, and trailed at halftime by just eight. Brent Stephens and Reggie Hamilton look like a pretty decent 1-2 scoring combo, they just need some better support.

And who the heck scheduled Kansas and Arizona in two of their first four games!?!?

A team that wants to become a major player in college hoops.
If UMKC can get to a point where they can recruit it's hometown players in KC like Rush, etc, they could become a powerhouse.

GREAT GAME!!!

"UMKC rallied and beat the Shockers 59-56 in front of 2,309 at Municipal Auditorium."

Too bad 2,000 of those 2,309 were Wichita St. fans.

Does anyone know what Larry Johnsons connection is to UMKC?  I've seem him sitting courtside at the last two games I've attended.
