Here's another site about singles in cities

http://www.forbes.com/lists/2004/05/04/ ... polls.html

The voting is done but the cool thing is if somebody has some cool "singles" pictures of KC....first fridays, city market, westport, plaza type stuff, they have an email address you can send the pictures in and if they pick them they will be published to represent KC type scene. Send in your best

the forum comments on the Forbes thing are ridiculous. if you think SSP forums are catty and bitter and absurd, check those out. it's interesting though, because it gives a "non-cityphile" perspective on cities.

apparently atlanta is boring and so is pittsburgh and basically anything NOT nyc or boston.

oh, and if youre a "young black progressive man with lots of interests," dont live in KC.

i am not an experienced "dater" but it seems to me that tons and tons of fantastic eligible singles simply dont put themselves out there on the "scene." e.g. i bet some of the best singles out there sit at home on friday nights, or at best go out with some friends to movies or coffee.

i've been at Mizzou for 5 years now (4 undergrad, 1 law), and have seriously "gone out" (in the barhopping sense) maybe 3 times total. and of course this town is nuts over "going out." i am just not into going out and randomly approaching people in bars, though apparently that's the ritual.

and i will DEFINITELY be at any KCssp mixer where KFB shows up with a Z28 and 3 "broads."

I was never a very agressive dater....either are any of my friends....but we "go out" more than any group I think.....some of our secondary group of friends are quite the minglers...we usually just hang out and talk to those around us.

I think that's part of the problem...KC is very clichish.

The Forbes site puts Denver-Boulder together. Why don't we get KC-Lawrence then?

isn't it time for a couple more good clubs like XO type stuff? House/dance music? Come on.....if you think about it, we're seriously lacking in that scene and bar scene in general I think...we just need MORE. There are more than enough young people coming into KC looking for more bar variety.

indeed!

KC's dance club scene is practically nonexistent. XO is a total joke and it is still probably the best.

people, there is more to going out than Barley's Brewhaus and Kelly's!!!!

segafredo's on the plaza isn't bad, but it's not really a superclub type place. they come correct with the *thump, thump* though.

Kabal is alright....DB is actually pretty good but a lot would bug out on the gay levels in there. XO used to be alright but got weird.

A place like Club Chemical but instead of dominated by pop rap, put house music in there.....I think it's time for some more.

Put them around DB on Main and make that a warehouse type club scene....I think it would work well.

Chemical hosted some house dj's the first few months it was open (DJ Irene, DJ Enrie, i think Richard humpty Vission came, CZR came), but now yeah it's all suburba-ghetto top 40 shit.

U:Move and Deepfix are the only folks that bring quality dance music. (umove.net and deepfixrecords.com). i know U:Move is bringing like 30 DJs into 6 rooms in the Uptown complex june 10 or 11. it'll be pretty "ravey" but all the clubbers will show up as well, to take advantage of the 5 bars. heheh.

if i had some money, i'd open a good dance club - DOWNTOWN where it belongs. no pissy neighbors, big rooms, good times.

Yes, just NOT in westport!!

Perhaps (and im not being facetious) On quality hill, On the broadway side by tanners, I know they have the quaff but really, come on, that place BLOWS... you can at least get a fair shot back north of the river ...or south if you go 12th to I-70 I seen some vacant lots on the 12th street side (south of it ) that would be perfect for one of those combination clubs ... cowboy/techno/rap/retro places ... its like an entire square block of NOTHING... where a liquor store used to be and flop houses were... i dont see many houses around for people to Mictrate on the lawn...

I have no problem with these type of clubs downtown but cowboy? Doubt it. I'm so sick of westport residents complaining...the bar district was there before you....you KNEW what you were buying.

Quaff and Tanners are very successful...Quaff is packed on weekends....the rest of the block is also completely full....need to find an empty warehouse type building.....Grand north of KC Live would be good or like I said south of KC Live down main where there is a good collection of bars already.

Kabal is far better than XO. It is a bit smaller, but much better. I talked to one of the owners and he said he just didn't feel like there was a lot of support for house music. I think they are tied in with deepfix. Thus, on some nights, they are mixing in some hiphop and things, trying to get the crowd to come in. Go to Kabal in the River Market, people!

I thought I heard Segafredo was closed. It is right up the street from me. I went there a few times, but it got really expensive for me. It obviously wasn't out to attract the young, not-yet-established crowd.

I have no doubt that KC is among the worstr cities for dating. Logging onto this forum is evidence that KC is mostly gay. I can't imagine the turnoil of being a hot young woman in KC.
