RUMOR: World's tallest proposed in KC?
the whole thing is how did this make it on globest.com? That's the only thing that gives this the .01% chance.

hype machine
This proposal, and the way its being disseminated, has the ring of mad genius. A blue-eyed cult leader conjured this in a double-wide to swindle capital. Here's the recipe: Create a compelling story with a gripping detail or two (world's largest building, world's finest hotel) and pepper it with plenty of mundane detail so it sounds like someone normal put the idea together. Locate it somewhere most of the world knows nothing about, but which still sounds legitimate (they know Kansas City exists, but that's all they know). Notice how the post to the skyscrapers site sounds almost professionally put together. But then you have the goofy repetition "suprinsingly beautiful city" and equally odd and eerily democratic invitation for comments. (As if to say we're not crazy, just progressive.)
Then get a few media outlets hanging on the margins (Internet outlets, trade magazines, or small town newspapers), which the larger newspapers and television stations feed on for primary research. You build legitmacy this way. Once a few reporters regurgitate your press release, you can begin attaching their articles to your next round of P.R. Some muti-millionaire from Iowa might take the bait, and finance your next round of fishing. Enough money, say, to pay a high-end architecture firm to render some drawings.
It'd be interesting to know what the EDC said. "Yeah they called us." would be enough confirmation to say that some scheme had been proposed.
Still, what if its true?
They can have all my money.

If this thing is true I'll run up the stairs of this building naked and jump off.
Since when do developers post their plans on skyscraper websites?

I just hope the theme park can coexist w/ WOF and OOF
And the convention center can coexist w/ bartle
I also hope our development doesn't start moving to wherever this is proposed.

Dev you're starting to talk as if this is going to happen
RUMOR: World's tallest proposed in KC?
Haha, its a what if scenario...
I'm just imagining if it was real, but IMO it's more likely it isn't real. But even our own EDC said they talked w/ the man who wrote the article.

Also if it is real and if it wasn't built, imagine the amount of development around the city this could cause. more people, more business. Just if it was real...

I just received a reply from nslh@nslh.net but I can't tell what our conversation is about... Confidentiality I guess.

The article spefically mentions the KCMO EDC (economic development corporation)... My guess is the Northland is the only area than could support something this size. The Far East area between Raytown and Lee's Summit might have the room, but not the topography nor the infrastructure.
If they really have signed a letter of intent with the EDC I can't imagine someone from the company would openly leak out information on a project of this magnitude before the official press conference. This one seems too far out there, but still close enough for Globe Street to be duped.

After catching up on this I don't think it is a joke. I think the company is sincere in pursuing this but if they can get it done is another story. This story will get bigger as time goes on unless this company is exposed as a complete fraud. At least it's kind of refreshing to see someone from Vancouver singing the praises of KC. You never know, they may capture the imagination of a few Saudi Arabian Princes to finance the thing.

Guys, I have received their document, but unfortunately of course, I can't release anything dealing with it. No renderings of the tower though, but I do have a location. If you want to see it email nslh@nslh.net and ask for it. It is in .pdf form.

On one hand - No way KC gets a development like this, and the communications are sketchy...
On the other - Why not dream a little...

I got an email from Kevin Collison of the Star. He said he checked into it yesterday and that it had no substance or credibility. He will have it in his column next week.
