Re: New Mexico, September 2009
It was El Malpais National Monument. We had already found a place to stay at Albuquerque and stayed there again that same night. So this must have been fairly close. I Googled El Malpais National Monument and found a ton of information, too much to list here. I think we must have missed a bunch of wonderful opportunities. We'll have to go back.

We're still visiting El Malpais National Monument on 9/24/09.
I like pictures of the sun.
Here's the picture my son was taking in the above pic.
Decided not to crop after rotating.
You knew I'd find them somewhere!
Accommodating bent tree.

Looks nice and warm - we needed to see these pics a couple weeks ago when we were still in Antartica-mode around here.

Here are more pictures, taken on the same day (9/24/09). We were making our way back to Albuquerque for the night.
We stopped to visit some ants.
And some ruins.
Son, looking for a good vantage point for pictures.
We trekked a short bit to see a big arch hiding in the massive rock.
And here's the arch.

Re: New Mexico, September 2009
Running out of things to photograph.
I asked the owners of this nice Chevy if I could take pictures of it. They were happy to oblige.
It is the next day, and we have made our way to my friend's house in Albuquerque and into her back yard.
My friend took us to a market where all sorts of things could be viewed, purchased, and eaten.
If you buy a ristra like one of these, be sure to hang it outside in the sun and frequently grab and eat the peppers or shellac the whole thing and hang it inside. Otherwise, it will spoil. I speak from experience.
Or just buy a few at a time.
Anyone for Mexican food tonight?

Here are my friend, husband, and son. You can see my shadow at the bottom.
Just an interesting view of a big stalk of dried something.
It is the next day, 9/26/09, and we are leaving Albuquerque.
We are now in Santa Fe.
This is the Performing Arts Center.
Center Square.
Notice how the church seems to be emitting beams.
Side view of the town square.
A service must have just let out.
Lots of artwork is on display in Santa Fe.

Re: New Mexico, September 2009
These pictures were taken in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and they are the last to be posted for this trip.
For cycling aficionados.
Town square.
I took a bunch of pictures trying to capture the bird sitting on top of the tall structure. This will have to do.
Southwest architecture is distinctive.
Completely useless picture. But I like it.
Art you can pet.
Art you can sit on.
I asked the owners if I could photograph this unusual, curly Jack Russell.
End of trip. So long.
