It looks like there is a "for sale" sign on the west side of the building!

Interesting development.  I wonder if the City told them there was too much opposition for any TIF to fly?

Bet they end up tearing it down anyway.  My guess is they are playing to the opponents of the tear down by saying "Yeah we are selling it and hope to see something great" then when it doesn't sell for the high sale price they tear it down and claim that they had to because the market just wan't there for a renovation.

Certainly a possibility.  They might be surprised if Shirley Helzberg snatches up that building for restoration. ;-)

I just noticed that the May/June issue of 'Preservation' has this listed under endangered buildings in the US.  It has a short discription including its Moorish interior...didn't realized anything of the interior was still intact

I don't think anything is left.  It was converted to parking garage in the 20s or something.

I heard the Moors were known for their parking garages.

As one who lived in a small Moorish village in the Sahara for two years in the country bearing their name, Mauritania, I can tell you that they seem to have abandoned their garage building activities in favor of tea-drinking in modern times.  Pity...

A photo showing the Grand Opera House and a tavern to the south featuring Pabst beers.  Note the water tank on the roof. This is also one of the only photos I've seen where the Grand Opera House had a front marquee shown on the building.  At one time, there was a large Pabst Brewery at 3rd and Grand in the River Market.

Woo-Hoo!!!!!

Woo-hoo!!!!!

The shiny new surface parking lot at 711 Main is just about to open!  Landscaping is in, the stalls are painted, all that's left is to erect the light towers.

This is fantastic news!  If there's one thing this area of downtown needs it's more surface lots.  This fills a much-needed void!!!!!

I noticed that last night.  I like the way the fresh black asphalt contrasts with the shrubbery!

kickass!  with the razing of grand slam and now another parking lot, the river market and loop will become "one" in no time!  =D>

It's going to be torn down.  The city issued a demolition order in December.

Commerce Bank wins.  Our vigilance was fleeting.  Hopefully they will provide their suburban residing employees more surface parking stalls.

Convenience wins again as our city continues to empty itself of anything resembling permanence.
Soon they will have enough room to build a second and third leg of I-70 between 6th street and 8th street....
