That leaves the door open for the Flying Saucer, or *gasp* Barley's. Heaven forbid a local establishment that doesn't suck get in.

I'd like to see McDonald's. Maybe the P&L District can steal the title for world's largest McDonald's from Okalhoma's Will Rogers TurnPike.

I haven't bought a fishing licence since they closed Sams in Raytown. Incidently that little shop is the reason Sam's Clubs were called "Wholesale Clubs" in KAnsas City utill about 10 years ago.

Smaks was a locally owned hamburger joint.  Sams was a discount retailer.

I hate to tell you but Smaks was not that loooong ago. I remember going to one over on Troost by the Landing. Not too bad. I remember a Burger Queen, not King. How about King's ? There used to be one on Johnson drive right before Belinder. I'm talking 30 years ago. Bring back Gold's Buffet!!!!! 8)

How about if White Castle returned to KC. Dowtown could have the exclusive location. Now that would be a true destination. People would drive from miles around to get those Delicious mini-hamburgers with onions just like Harold and Kumar.

That's two fast food joints you've recommended in two days.  Hum...

On-coming rocks!  Go-Go-Gadget-Invisible-Shield!

I think a McDonalds should be in the District.  Or some other fast food joint besides Whities (retch! puke! vomit!) for that matter.  A quick, crummy place that could cater to folks with out time to wait for dinner (or non-experimentative suburbanites) would fill a niche.

On the general topic of restaurants/retail for P&L I think it is highly important that Cordish does one of two things:

1. Bring in new concepts that are highly popular in other cities and get KC people excited. They don't have to be things like Hard Rock or Wolfgang Pucks. There are tons and tons of great eateries across the country (both expensive and cheap) that would be a big hit if someone brought them to KC. Cordish needs to focus on getting what's hot in other markets in addition to getting the recognizable stuff that people see in other cities.

2. Bring in established concepts that KC already loves. Bristol is a good example of something that is homegrown and popular, but Chipotle is something that people are obsessed with even though it's cheap and everywhere. The aim should be to bring in concepts that are already popular here, but create buzz among foodies in KC.

I think if a restaurant doesn't meet either of the categories above then it shouldn't be a part of the Cordish project.

Man, if we're talking fast food, I would mortgage my soul for a Jack in the Box.
