I don't think so.  Here's the rendering that was in the Star:

Looks like the Count Basie part was supposed to be identical to the red version posted ^above^.

Who knows.  The rest looks awesome.  I'm sure it will all turn out looking great.  Just a shame it will all be covered in a few years.

Plans are to put a building on the parking lot.  Some have mentioned on here they would like the mural to become part of a lobby of the building they put on the lot.  Not too sure myself...might be cool if done right.

I think it will be a while before buildings go up there.

I see... hmm...lots of thoughts swirling around, like "why did they waste the time if it's going to be covered by a building?"

Cause it's going to be a couple of years before those buildings go up.  Much rather have a welcoming mural on the south side than a massive dead wall.

I see. Hmm...still not working for me.

Why do you hate art?!

to put it bluntly, Cordish sees this as decoration, not art.  Just like the Christmas lights people put so much effort into putting up every year and then taking down.

Please, you be quiet! I love art! I just don't love this art! I love Monet and Van Gogh, Pollock and Kadinsky! I'm not feeling expression from this art! Maybe the artist is expressing himself, but I'm not feeling it!

It looks to me, based on the pic posted on page 9, that "Appearing At" was supposed to be higher up.  There's a fairly large band of white space above the lettering.  I think it will look cool, but at the moment, it doesn't seem to make much sense.

I like it.  Thats my two cents.  And maybe, juuust maybe, it'll point downtown visitors towards 18th and Vine!

Will these murals be finished by the Big XII (hopefully) ?  I'm worried since he hasn't even started on the Negro Leagues mural on the Eastern building.

I don't think it makes sense to paint a giant mural in the middle of winter when it either snows or freezes every three days.

Although this topic was tacked on to the public square thread, there are wheels to turn the Truman/670 area into the envisioned Truman Blvd. I definitely think the money could be better spent elsewhere, but perhaps KCMo could get state and/or federal funding? It would be a great space for public art, sidewalk cafes, and retail to surround the green park.

Fox 4 did a nice story on it:

So I see in the news this morning that some jackass was fleeing the cops DT last night and drove his car over the side of one of the 670 overpasses onto the highway.  Did it jack up any of the nice new bridge improvements?

It looked like one of the unimproved areas.

Capping the loop would have saved this guy's life though.

So would not driving recklessly and fleeing from the cops.

Yeah but who is going to do that?

I was just looking for another reason to cap the loop.
