It looks a little bit different from what it was when I was there, but it looks good overall. There needs to be variation in new buildings built around town and this one breaks from the mold a bit. It blends in well with the surrounding area and an additional 250+ residents is extremely beneficial. The one thing I’d add, and if a Lux employee is reading this forum because I know they do, make sure to include a mural on that western wall. Leaving it blank doesn’t look right.

Will Lux be building the proposed townhomes across Walnut from the apartments? I did see a remark about townhomes, but those weren't shown in the pics.

They’re included on Walnut Street. Walk-up units.

Looks reasonable, but what is going on at ground level? Looks like a significant blank wall past the garage entrance.

Where did this come from? I'd hope it's not a wall but sure does look like one

CitySceneKC

"Alston said his Freight House Village plan still calls for 250 apartments and a restaurant at the corner of 20th and Walnut. About 10 of the units will be walk-up, townhome-style residents"

That doesn't indicate those are where smh is asking about. I hope but hate assuming given our history with developers giving us crap design at street level

i have confirmed that the N/S elevation (supposed blank wall) is where the walk up units are.

How so? Isn't he talking about the west elevation?

Yes. The walk-up units will be on the west side facing Walnut Street. They’ll begin just after the parking entrance and exit and go most of the way down.

For those curious, elevations and floor plans were uploaded to Compass. It shows how Walnut is mostly walk-up units. Planning staff is requesting the East elevation be improved to not have so many blank walls.

Some news about the Podium tower in this article.

It says they could make it a hotel possibly, and are waiting about a year to do the RFP. Also wants it to be high-rise.

It reads specifically that they may remove the hotel component?

Ah, yes my bad. Was skimming it. I do wonder what the Strata status is if they're considering Podium here.

Two different developers on two projects that seem more conceptual right now. Would it have any impact?
