Magnum and Mamba are not the same thing. Mamba has a helix for one, whereas Magnum is a pretzel. Magnum has tunnels, Mamba does not. Mamba reaches top speeds on 2 drops, Magnum does not. Mamba is smooth, Magnum is not. They were not even designed by the same companies. If you want a good reason to be mad at cookie cutter rides, direct your anger at Boomerang, not Mamba.
As for ripping rides out....the Zambezi Zinger and Orient Express were inoperable in their final conditions. They had to go.
Mamba and magnum are alot alike. The tunnel (on magnum) you refer to is a steel pipe that is wrapped around the track 20 feet in the air, right before it gets back to the station. The orient was operable. The zambezi is still being run to this very day. Granted its in columbia, but its in their national park, a very prestigous one where safety is still a priority.

Every hyper coaster is of the basic out-and-back format with two or three major hills, a turnaround of some sort, and return camelback humps. Mamba, magnum, steel force, steel eel....they're all like that. That doesn't make them clones.
From what I had heard, the Orient was costing entirely too much to keep up and was to the point where only one train could be run. From a fiscal standpoint, it was inoperable.
only thing I wish about the Orient is they gave it a final year type celebration....unless you read worldsoffun.org you probably didn't know it was going away.
I went ahead and moved this here, and also bumping it to show pictures of the track that confirm it will be an inverted roller coaster (http://www.rcdb.com/ig3244.htm)
Where was that at? Any idea of when the work will start?

Actually the Mamba and Steel force(Dorney Park) are IDENTICAL. Steel Force does have tunnels, but if anyone saw the original drawings of Mamba it was also suppose to have tunnels.

I believe it was in the paper. Sad to see it go. It was still cooler than the other coasters in the park after all of those years if you ask me.
It's great news that they are getting a new one over there though. Very nice work digging up those photos KCN.

The Orient was pure intoxication, complete with the hangover afterwards.
Official design has not been released yet....and it is still kind of specualation that it's an inverted (that track could be for a floorless as well....though the supports suggest inverted).
But I'd guess it would be somewhat similar to Talon at Dorney Park
