A $52 million apartment project that would replace an industrial building on the northeast corner of 20th and Broadway remains on track despite delays, according to its developer.

Opus Development won approval for the 228-unit apartment project a year ago from the city. It’s planned for the site currently occupied by the Faultless Health Care Linen building at 1915 Broadway, about three blocks south of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

The developer had originally hoped to begin construction in the fourth quarter of 2017 with completion late this year. Joe Downs, vice president of real estate development for Opus, said in a statement the project is still moving forward.

“We continue finalizing plans for our apartment project in the vibrant Crossroads neighborhood,” Downs said. “We look forward to sharing more information in the year ahead.”

Supposedly the land sale will finally occur this summer. Can't believe it's taken Opus this long to get this going. There is some indication that Opus might be teaming up with another developer, but will keep the design we've already seen.

I’ve heard the original design is dead and construction is likely on hold indefinitely.

That's not what the seller told me today, but it would not surprise me if the deal completely falls through.

The seller should move on. Sounds like they’re hoping against hope.

Wow. Given how much time/money they put into pre-development there must be some pretty big hurdles to development associated with this project.

Given that OPUS has other local investments and likely is looking for a certain level of investment within KC, I wouldn't be surprised if we see another project from them somewhere else.

My hunch is that their source of capital dried up or wasn't patient enough (it wasn't their own, from what I understand about Opus in general). I'm surprised they lasted this long with no progress.

The project was good, but not great (no retail, some blank walls). Hopefully something better comes along.

I expect with the uncertainty right now in the stock market, some other projects might be put on hold or cancelled.
