Re: North Oak MAX
Needs to happen and should be extended (perhaps via midtown Broadway) to Plaza or even Waldo after streetcar expansion is running.

Is there an estimated trip length yet? The route looks to have a handful too many stops.DaveKCMO wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 7:37 pm Public meetings this week! http://ridekc.org/bulletins/join-us-to- ... -north-oak

Seriously... and in a few instances they are only a block apart!normalthings wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 9:37 pmIs there an estimated trip length yet? Re: North Oak MAX
Interesting.
Vivion to Englewood is currently 8 stops, proposed down to six
In the same distance downtown where this takes people, with many more destinations, there's only four stops.
That seems backwards
Remove Evansdale (put it on 238 only), N. Oak Marketplace (Vivion Rd serves it already and there's a crosswalk there) and 55th
Combine 70th and 72nd into one
Move 83rd towards Barry
Combine Main and Barry into Wyandotte (better spot for a crosswalk to the future center, Broadway ends at a dead spot for heading north)
Move Hickory to Mercier. (still within reach for residents, better access to shopping and is a natural turnaround point)
Cut Marston, serve by bike to other stops
Move Line Creek and Northland Heights into one stop. That's three stops in a low density area
Combine Waukomis and St. Clair for the same reason
The hospital entrance is on the south side, keep a stop there
Keep an Ambassador stop on the east end near where it connects to St. Clair, can serve walmart from the transit center

Re: North Oak MAX
It's not just about the stops, it's the ped access and positioning and what changes are bundled into the upgrade. So much of what I put moves the stops on the map from bad crossing spots to ones with actual crosswalks today. There's no way the city will add a crosswalk at 55th when the one at Englewood is within reach.
I missed a super stupid spot. Normandy is where there's a blinking light to warn drivers of oncoming traffic for one direction (NB) and is where people come off I-29 looking only to the left for the other (SB) That it's mentioned for a proposed upgrade is ludicrous. It's stupid to drive a car turning from Normandy let alone try to walk across the street here. This stop should be scrapped forever and people should use the neighborhood streets to reach a stop further south. There's no sidewalks on either side of N. Oak, the shoulder on both sides in sections serves as both as parking and a culvert for stormwater, though it's so damaged on one side it doesn't serve well as either. N. Oak needs a total overhaul before bus service will be taken seriously here.

Re: North Oak MAX
The city does have plans to make North Oak a complete street.

Re: North Oak MAX
the city has had those plans for ten years.
It’s improving part of N Oak from 4 lanes, 50 mph capable to 4 lanes, 50mph capable with sidewalks
The city is lowering the hill heights which will make it possible to go even faster than before. That is the city’s plans in practice.
