I think Mario's, Grinders and D'bronx meatballs are all better than 20/20. I think those places use better bread too.
If it doesn't have street-level retail, it's an abortion.

The meatball sandwich at Tarantino's is pretty tasty too.

Agree with the previous mention of the Autostrada at Happy Gillis.  They also just rolled out a cuban sandwich that I am eager to try.

I believe the Mario's daughter owns twenty 20 and the meatball is the same recipe.  In fact, I don't think Mario even owns Mario's anymore.  But that might not be true.

Those places are all have the additional benefit of actually being open through most of a day too.  I have lived around the corner from 20/20 for three years and have never seen the joint open other than FF's.

My thoughts...

Meatloaf Sandwich - Happy Gillis
Cuban Pork  - Happy Gillis
Philly Steak w/Wiz - Grinders
Meatball Grinder - Mario's Westport

If I HAD to pick one - my favorite is The Napoli.

eating my first napoli right now.  it's pretty magnanimous, though a bit heavy on the dressing.

not really.  my friends and i use it as slang for things that are awesome - i.e. this is a noble and benevolent sandwich.  thanks for the grammar police stop though.

I'm with Mean - that sandwich isn't forgiving or humble when it doesn't have to be.  It has no personality.

Did you mean to say it is a sandwich of great magnitude?

Perhaps it is a sandwich we can deam worthy of unanimous magnificence?

mag⋅nan⋅i⋅mous
   /mægˈnænəməs/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [mag-nan-uh-muhs]
–adjective
1. generous in forgiving an insult or injury; free from petty resentfulness or vindictiveness: to be magnanimous toward one's enemies.
2. high-minded; noble: a just and magnanimous ruler.
3. proceeding from or revealing generosity or nobility of mind, character, etc.: a magnanimous gesture of forgiveness.

i'm going with a loose, slang usage in the vein of of (2).  my sandwich was noble, just, great.

I thought you just mistyped magnificent or something. I didn't mean to turn it into a cockfight.

I had the peanut triple BLT last night, I tell you that sandwich was meticulously overconscientious.

best sandwich in town is definitely NOT the "irv's favorite" from d'bronx.  corned beef, salami, spicy mustard, horseradish, swiss, etc. on rye.  the bread was dry as hell and there was about 1/3 as much meat/cheese as there should have been.  i ate it open-face style sans one piece of bread, which made it better, but still a huge disappointment.

i also got a chocolate chip cookie and it sucked.  it tasted like a pepperidge farm cookie or something instead of d'bronx's usual awesome fresh-baked cookies.
