I never said other people were saying it would be the tallest but if you think about it, it would be the new tallest if built. The Hyatt Regency has 731 rooms and is 45 stories tall and 154 meters tall. A 1,000 room hotel could be well over 55 stories tall and could compete for being KC's Tallest.KCPowercat wrote: Here is the story

No talk of a a convention level hotel being the city's tallest building. The old P&Z did support the measure, which means absolutely nothing now with the new council and mayor.
any rumors about a new tallest bldg in KC?

can't really equate # of rooms with height. Just look at the Marriott downtown. I"m all for it though....
I just want to make clear what is factual and what is not for other reading interested in these topics.

The height will also depend on where the big convention hotel is built. If it's a narrow floor plate, it will have to be taller, but if it's on an entire block, or most of a city block, it could be a three- or four-sided (wings) building with a open courtyard in the middle and not be as tall. Depending on location, it could also have two structures across the street from each other connected by a skybridge.
If it ends up at 12th and Grand (the Copaken parcel), it could be a square-shaped building and not be as tall as if it ends up on the DST parcel at 13th and Baltimore (which is only third or half block).
The height will probably be dictated by the site choice.

The DT Marriott has a long floor plate. I don't see something like that being built. It would still be our best shot for a new tallest anytime soon.KCPowercat wrote: can't really equate # of rooms with height. Just look at the Marriott downtown. I"m all for it though....

And Fang isn't it 14th and Baltimore? I see that block being the site for it. And with so many people more than likely protesting the blocked view of the P&L Building, I could see the hotel being built on the left half of the block and having it be a very slender/tall building.

You are correct, I should have said 14th and Baltimore.
Another site that would be large enough for it, but would require some excavation is the site south of Truman Road and west of Baltimore adjacent to the Convention Center Ballroom and the PAC.

Anybody see this little gem in the KC Biz Journal (online) yesterday?
Funkhouser also said:
"There isn't market-driven, private-sector demand for a 1,000-room convention hotel in Downtown." Other reasons would need to be found for such a project, which has been discussed as the next step in Downtown's revitalization.

Unless your other information is that the tower will have 60 floors, I don't see how it would challenge 1KCP. And no one has ever even hinted that the Cordish tower might be that substantial. So yeah spill the beans. You know this forum has a rumor section.KCPowercat wrote: I agree that's what the story said...I was going on some other information that might not be public...so we'll just go with what you said.

I thought 44...could be 43. The law firm on the top floor used to let me go up and take pictures 4 years ago.

It would take 50-60 floors for a condo/hotel tower to reach 630 feet (one KC Place).KCFan wrote: I thought One KC Place was only 43 stories?

Does anyone know where the Cordish tower stands? I thought it was part of phase I.

With apologies to Queen.

Of course, they didn't say how long you had to wait.

I may be right. I may be wrong. But there is a lot of gray area in-between.
