Re: The NEW Kauffman Stadium - post your reviews
And people have no basis in reality if they truly think on a sold out night there won't be lines. That doesn't happen in any facility I have been in, new or old.
I have been to 4 games this year, two 'sold out'. I really haven't had one problem...bathrooms quick, beer quick, food quick. Opening day lines for the outfield bathrooms were obcenely long no doubt. its obvious aramark screwed the first buck night up as well.

Have you (or anyone) found anything worth eating out there yet? I tried a burger - it was putrid. The hot dog was barely average. I've pretty much given up - but may have to cave on a weeknight game when I don't have time to grab dinner.KCPowercat wrote: And people have no basis in reality if they truly think on a sold out night there won't be lines. If it doesn't have street-level retail, it's an abortion.

Pizza was pretty good. Nachos were average. I think that is all I have had. Foot long dogs looked good, too bad they aren't it sounds like.
I want to try the bbq. Doubt its good though, is gates gone?

I think all local vendors with the exception of Sheridan's are gone. Pyramid, Planet Sub and Gates - from what I remember. Not to mention the Boulevard Grills - leading to the unfortunate loss of The Sheboygan and their grilled all beef footlong dog (haven't tried the new one).KCPowercat wrote: Pizza was pretty good. I actually think this bbq is an improvement over the old gates counters. The Gates stuff was always trucked in and held in steam carts and they gave you a really pathetic portion of meat - it really bore no resemblance to the food at the resataurant. The new place actually takes the meat out of the smoker and slices to order. I had the rib dinner the first game we went out there and while it was pricey - it was enough food that I never thought about getting anything else the whole game (unusual).KCPowercat wrote: I want to try the bbq. The footlong hot dog was pretty disappointing - it was grilled which is a nice touch, but it had to be the saltiest hot dog I have ever consumed - almost inedibly salty and I am not sensative to salt. It didn't help that the bun was about three days old stale. And I was really unimpressed by the fact that the aramark idiots let themselves run out of hot dogs on the grill and made dozens of folks wait for them to cook more - and yes all of the other concession stands on that side were equally train wrecks so there was no point in moving on. I did find where they have a brat/kielbasa stand hidden away next to the circular ramp outside the concourse, but they are not the Sheboygans and didn't look anywhere near as good.
So far the highlight has been the homemade potato chips covered in cheese sauce and bacon.

The "basement" or Dugout Concourse, as it is named, is reserved for those ticketholders who have a Dugout Box ticket. That is the reason they usually have two or three ushers standing in front of the Dugout Concourse vomitorium the entire game . . . to authorize access based on the ticket each person is holding. However, I know that have been rather lax at restricting access for certain games. I have Dugout Box season tickets and that is what all the literature I received has said.LenexatoKCMO wrote: Thats easy - the lower deck, or "basement" as it is probably more properly referred, is almost entirely invisible from most parts of the stadium. It really doesn't do much good at releaving crowds if 95% of the fans in attendance have no reason to know it exists.

Went to the game Monday night--had chicken fingers with french fries all of which was piping hot, fresh, crispy fries, tender and juicy chicken. Later had a jumbo pretzel which was hot and soft. My friends each had a cheese burger which they said was really quite good. My first couple of games this year the food was pretty bad, however, the last couple have been much much better. Of course, this all came from the "super secret" Dugout Concourse.WSPanic wrote: Have you (or anyone) found anything worth eating out there yet? I tried a burger - it was putrid. Was out there tonight, absolutely no problem with lines for food or bathrooms.
Foot-long hotdogs were average, pretty much like grilled hotdogs wherever. I dunno, I don't expect gourmet from sports venue concessions.

Had the chicken fingers and fries this evening. Very decent! Got them free to since we were waiting for so long.

Re: The NEW Kauffman Stadium - post your reviews
Two things I predict will happen (or hope in one case).
The bathroom/concourse issue will normalize. People are curious about the stadium and are up and around a lot more than normal. As the season progresses more people will stay in their seats and lines will be manageable at near capacity games.
(hope) that the season ticket base will grow giving us a more predictable attendance number. Walk ups of 15k are a perfect storm for bad concession lines. One, it's hard to staff the checkouts when you don't know if you are going to have 15k or 30k people at the game. Second, big walk up crowds create ammature fan night at the K. Lots more getting up and walking around, lots more time at the concessions. lots more time in the outfield plaza, lots more trips to the bathroom and a lot less game watching. We get the season ticket base up to 20k and it won't be anywhere near the same issue.

Re: The NEW Kauffman Stadium - post your reviews
Last night head to the bathroom right by the hall of fame building...as I am walking out I hear whining about the newly formed line. As I get into the concourse I look down to the next bathroom....nothing.
Problem seems to be all the dri-duck cheap seats people and people walking up that big LF stairway see that bathroom and assume that is it.
Fyi, also look the other way down to the old concourse, you can see yet another bathroom...also empty.
People will learn.
I also think I am the bad luck guy...haven't seen a win yet.

I had the burnt end sandwich last night. Was pretty tasty - although, it really didn't seem like burnt ends - there was ham in there as well.
I'll try the chicken fingers next time - sounds like they're popular. Thanks for the reviews.
Also saw some organic bottle beer - not sure what it was. I'll have to take a look at that tonight. I like that they have Blue Moon at the leftfield bar.

I'm 1-3 so far - not faring much better. Hoping we get the game in tonight - looking for my second win out of Zack.KCPowercat wrote:

Couple other notes on my Saturday visit :
1. We had the cheeseburgers - thought they were fine. Not fantastic, but certainly passable.
2. We went into the Dugout Concourse a couple different times, with no problem. Our seats were practically at the foul pole, but nobody stopped us or said anything.

They limited the use of the dugout concourses the first week - but have already stopped due to complaints. Anyone can use them now.DiggityDawg wrote: Couple other notes on my Saturday visit :

Tigers centerfielder Curtis Granderson gives his review
If you haven't been to a Royals game at Kauffman Stadium before (or even if you have), I highly recommend that you check it out this season. It's a great baseball environment.
The new upgrades give it a minor-league feel, but on a much larger scale considering the size of the stadium. The new "fountain" seats that they added in both right center and left center are a nice addition, and probably the one I really liked most. Those look like great seats and seem like a great place to sit during batting practice and the game.

Re: The NEW Kauffman Stadium - post your reviews
I've been to three games and enjoyed every visit.
My rant is not about the stadium, but purchasing tickets. In particular the Dry-Duck seats.
We went to the game on Saturday night. I knew it was going to be a sell out. As of Friday night, the best available seats were the cheap seats up in View Level. So, the only real option was to get the game day dry-duck seats or standing room only.
I knew dry-duck was game day only, but could not find when they actually went on sale. Box Office opens at 9:00 am. So, some friends and I go out to the K at 8:45 am and wait in line for over an hour. We finally get to the window around 10:00 am and find out that you can only buy the dry-ducks at 3:00pm. WTF kind of policy is this. A fan waits in line at 8:45 am on game day and he can't buy a fucking ticket?
In any event, we go back out there at 1:45pm. Bring a cooler up to the line. In our minds, the only logical way to administer the dry-duck seats is first come first serve, one ticket per person. First 425 in line get tickets. Reward people for standing in line for 2 hours. This is how a lot of concerts do it. You've gotta be in line to get a ticket.
Nope. Not at the K
People were walking away from the ticket office with stacks of 20-30 tickets. Many of them turned right around and started scalping them for $20.
Shitty policy, IMO.

That does suck. Should be a limit on tickets per person.
I believe 3pm was the time for the old GA section too.

Re: The NEW Kauffman Stadium - post your reviews
On a similar note - I did get to see some great comedy going into the stadium Saturday. Some guy ahead of us really lost it because they ran out of the free jersey give aways (first 20k). Dude throws a giant tantrum. Kicks over the security guard's stool and gatorade jug, flooding the whole entrance area. Starts ranting about how he 'fought for our country and didn't deserve to be treated this way'. Kicks the steel overhang support so hard he had to have come close to breaking his foot. And promptly gets escorted right back out.
Dude, if getting the jersey was more important to you than watching the game, I am pretty sure you could have picked up a similar cheap, knock-off jersey at WalMart for less than you probably paid for the ticket.
