Hopefully the first thing they do is power wash all the pee out of the bus ramp that goes between McGee and Oak...

"That makes $165 million worth of development on the last corner of Downtown that needs to be brought back to life," Tom Smith said.

If he is talking about Manhattan, I agree. KC, he's insane!

So I tweeted @Quiktrip @MayorSlyJames a thought that in one of the retail/commercial fronts should be a first ever QTKitchens 24/7 Center. I think its a fun idea especially with the neighborhood residents and hopefully an Embassy coming into place. Basically, it's a QT+Kitchen without the gas component.

Why not just a bodega-esque concept...? Nothing fancy. A deli type w/ hot and cold choices during the day and then select items for late night. That would be a great addition anywhere downtown, but it could really be awesome w/ an Embassy and residential in a concentrated place such as Pickwick.

In a separate thought, I love that they are restoring the clock on that building. I think it is such a unique feature and will really be a standout!

Great news, long overdue. Given there aren't many amenities that side of downtown, agree they should target at least a deli/coffee shop at the base. 200+ units in that building alone could keep it open late.

Not even close to enough people for a late hour coffee shop to stay open.

My guess is that location would need more like 2000 people living around it to make a coffee shop keeping late hours to work.

Much of the building has been vacant for thirty years.

Now with the $65 million renovation, The Pickwick Hotel and bus terminal will be 260 market rate apartments and 30 thousand feet of commercial space.

I know there are bigger, more exciting projects underway, but I like this one the most.

the only thing that's bigger by number of units is commerce tower, right?

this is by far the biggest bellwether for redevelopment east of grand in the loop. like in the crossroads now, mcgee in the loop will very soon be a very different place.

I walk by this every day since I park in the Fed garage. Seems like they're working on it pretty quickly. Hopefully when it's done there is someone that can compel the city or some nearby property owner to actually take care of what is probably the worst epidemic of pigeon droppings in the city. The north side of 10th b/w Grand and McGee is horrible. Pigeon droppings probably an inch thick.

I'd contact the Downtown CID 421-1539. they could have someone come out & clean it.

I just hope the hotel conversion of the old FED to Embassy Suites goes through.

The Pickwick is on fire. Looks to be mostly on the north side of the building and maybe even over towards the garage. Hard to tell, but it is an unfortunate set back.

Looks like KCFD got it quick... Better a fire now than further into renovations.
