That's what I was thinking, but apparently the stadium reno was considered a 10-15 year bandaid.

Yeah, I think we will revisit the idea within a decade.chaglang wrote:That's what I was thinking, but apparently the stadium reno was considered a 10-15 year bandaid.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
The shots of KC fans celebrating in the Power and Light District during game 3 in San Francisco made me cringe.
The Live Area is an OK place when you are actually there but the shots on national TV did not do it justice. It looked KC's premier gathering spot was some rinky-dink area enclosed by corrugated metal not unlike a cheap junior college gymnasium. Jeez, at least get a shot of some of the downtown buildings in the background or the huge screen television the fans were watching.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
The recent downtown stadiums have not come cheap. And then throw on the cost of paying off the reno bonds/buying out the Royals current lease just drives up the cost even more. So that begs the question "Where does the money come from?"chingon wrote:Yeah, I think we will revisit the idea within a decade.chaglang wrote:That's what I was thinking, but apparently the stadium reno was considered a 10-15 year bandaid.
And who says the reno was a short term bandaid? Sure, there will be some upgrades in the future but those will come at a much cheaper cost than a new stadium.
Don't forget by then you will also be replacing the Sprint Center or whatever it will be called then.

Re: KC in TV and Movies
This video by Dan Wood featuring Kansas City area architecture at night was posted on Facebook
under the Things and places we loved in Greater KC when we were much younger page.
http://vimeo.com/106281351
If I were making the video, and assuming there was no time limit, I would have also considered added night shots of these lighted buildings:
Boley Building
Police Headquarters
The Mainstreet Theater
Midland Theater (or a combined shot of both theaters moving down Main Street)
Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
The entrance to City Market
The Community of Christ Temple in Independence with its' spire
909 Walnut spires
Central Public Library
Professional Building
Folly Theater
Uptown Theater
Deramus Building, 301 W. 11th Street building
Buildings and Traders Exchange Building, 612 Central
Aladdin Hotel marquee
Phillips Hotel facade
Old Post Office building on Pershing
Katz Drugstore tower and clock on Main (assuming one could get them to light it)
Giralda Tower on the Plaza (isolated shot)
American Century towers on Main
Poindexter Building on Broadway
Webster House in the Crossroads District
Kansas City Life Insurance building on Broadway
Park University administration building, Parkville.
I would include the Scottish Rite Temple on Linwood, but I can't remember if it's lighted at night.

Wow... That is one of the most beautiful videos I have seen. That makes Kansas City look absolutely amazing and as you said Fang, this only showed a small portion of beautiful Kansas City. So many other great ideas for shots, though no doubt the amount of time and effort that went into that is simply mind boggling. Very cool.

Marcus Mumford and others create songs written from unpublished Bob Dylan lyrics to create "the basement tapes". A documentary featuring this will air on Showtime Nov 21st.
"Kansas City" and "Six Months in Kansas City" are 2 of the songs.

On December 13, the CBS Evening News also linked the Dan Woods' video Time Lapse: Kansas City Lights on their website.

And, from the link to Dan Woods, I found this little gem.

Nice shots of KC at the D2 football championship on espn2 but all the shots are in Missouri and every time they tell the audience about the game in Kansas City Kansas.

They're probably the same shots that ESPN uses for any event in KC.brewcrew1000 wrote:Nice shots of KC at the D2 football championship on espn2 but all the shots are in Missouri and every time they tell the audience about the game in Kansas City Kansas.

I was watching the season finale of "Transparent" which is one of Amazons first original series and has been well received. The cliffhanger for next season was a polite, christian kid showing up from "Overland Park, Kansas" to meet his biological Jewish father in LA. Might turn into one of the main storylines next season.
