Man, I don't know if the sidewalks are wide enough :P

The TDD has been officially formed and the director election has been called: http://kcrta.org/2017/08/12/court-appro ... formation/

I know the answer will be "its' the law" but it's extremely weird that this election isn't mail in as well.

You can vote absentee by mail for this one, but that also requires a Notary...

So, hypothetically speaking...if any of us wanted to run for the highly-coveted office of TDD director and somehow got elected, any idea of how much of a time commitment that would end up being?

Also, woo Saturday voting.

not much, but this TDD may be required to do more heavy lifting than the downtown TDD (which was formed by the city/port). example: if the city declines to issue the bonds for construction (a distinct possibility), then the TDD can issue them. the TDD can theoretically oversee construction, but at the end must have an entity willing to "take over" the thing that's built. currently the city is the owner of the streetcar and grantee for federal funding, but KCATA or PortKC could fulfill one or both of those roles.

Please be you and not, like, Clay Chastain or Sherry DeJanes...

That was my fear, but you need to live in the district, which eliminates both. DeJanes will have a candidate, I'm sure.

https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/ ... -plan.html
Schwaller said the project would take place during the next nine months, with final conclusions expected in April. The group will research eight components, including ridership, cost of operations, and the purpose and need of an extension, a key factor in landing federal funding.
Another key piece of the plan will include analysis on the best lane for the streetcar along the Main Street corridor and whether it would have a dedicated path. That also would factor into a larger discussion about how an expansion would interface with buses. The team also will use drones to assess the parking lots that dot Midtown and how they are used.

The last few paragraphs of that bizjournal article are such a great rebuke to the petition effort the anti- crowd put all their energy in to. Oh, so the "city" can't plan expansion without a citywide vote? That's fine, there are plenty of other organizations/agencies that can who operate outside the authority of the "city".

Does the city being uninvolved for the time being really present any setback for expansion planning? What role did the city provide that couldn't be channeled through nascently associated agencies?

Also how much hassle is there involved in landing federal funding in the current political climate?

Please forgive any sloppiness in this post. I'm running on 2 hours of sleep and not in any state to proofread what I just wrote.

Planning can get up to the point of designing the actual track, lane and stop design since the city and all the utility partners come into the discussion at this point. The engineering plan has to include everyone with anything running down or crossing the line at the street level.

Remember, with all the telcos involved this list is much bigger than one would think. Downtown has 40+ network providers connecting into it. Can't say they all run down Main St but this shows just how big these discussions can get and functionally only the city has the final say on if the plan is doable.

Any talks of including 'smart city' sensors, kiosks, etc with the extension?

I do to check location of streetcar. Just hit lower right transit icon. But haven't used for anything else. Maybe visitors do? There's a report in other thread claiming the kiosks are making money.

This is a web link to also check location of streetcars and buses, worth bookmarking on phone...
