Re: Casinos coming to Kansas?
Kansans are so whack.
A casino west of Manhattan and east of Kanarado, say Hays, on I 70 would give some relief and fun to folks motoring to or from Colorado.
You'd have two 6 hour drives rather than the tedious, stupor inducing trek across KS. that now exists.
...and God wouldn't even strike 'em dead for stopping.

I think WyCo and Wichita would be two of the proposed sites. I think there was one rural area that wanted one, I think it was in SE Kansas.

Hm.. I think Pittsburg, Kansas wanted some slots at their abandonded dog tracks.. but, that's all I've heard about that.KCMax wrote: I think WyCo and Wichita would be two of the proposed sites. I think there was one rural area that wanted one, I think it was in SE Kansas.
I don't know if I'm pro-casino(s) but I do love their buffets, and have been known to drop a few bills here and there.

I was thinking along the lines of Wendover, on the Nevada Utah border, in the absolute middle of nowhere.
It's become a bustling community, partially from I 80 traffic, + SLC folks making the trek westward.

Introduction of gambling bill expected next week in Senate
CARL MANNING
Associated Press
TOPEKA, Kan. - As legislators look for more money to help finance higher school spending, gambling legislation is being prepared for introduction in the Senate late next week.
The proposal calls for two casinos, one in Wyandotte County, which includes Kansas City, Kan.; and one in southeast Kansas. It also allows slot machines at horse and dog tracks in Kansas City, Wichita and Frontenac and permits slots at Dodge City, if the town ever constructs a pari-mutuel track.

Kansas Gaming Bill off to a rocky start
Supporters say they don’t yet have the 21 votes needed for passage in the Senate. Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley estimated there currently are 18 or 19 votes for the bill.

Kansas Senate kills latest gambling bill
TOPEKA — The vote was close and the debate long, but the Kansas Senate on Thursday defeated the latest expanded gambling proposal, pitched as a fix for Kansas’ school funding crisis.
The 16-20 vote rejecting the plan came in the late evening after four hours of debate. The plan would have permitted a casino in Kansas City, Kan., and slots at racetracks throughout the state. Four senators abstained.
Senate leaders now will have to search for another way to meet court demands for greater school funding without bankrupting the state. But even with only two weeks left in the regular session, it’s likely other gambling proposals could make a return.

Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
I'm sorry, but this isn't a question of if gambling is good or not. After all there are already casinos in Kansas, not to mention in very close proximity to a very large portion of the Kansas population. The question is would you rather Kansans receive some tax money for the gambling that they already participate in, or would you rather Missouri using our money to fund their schools?

Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
As you may think its helping Kansans receiving tax money or helping Missouri schools the money is coming from somewhere. That's why people who gamble are addicted to it or thousands are claiming bankruptcy because the states receive tax money. There's no good in that unless your thinking became corrupt.KCK wrote: I'm sorry, but this isn't a question of if gambling is good or not. Paintfumes, why do you fancy yourself being the arbiter of morals for society? Too bad you didn't hook up with Carrie Nation. What a team you would have been. I'm much more inclined towards letting folks have the freedom to live their lives, and if they screw up, so be it.

The folks who seem like they could most use a healthy belt of whiskey are almost always the ones who don't drink. Sort of a Ned Flanders effect.kcdcchef wrote: the only reason he is on this board is to propound his bs about morals, and most importantly, alcohol.

An addiction doesn't have freedom.

WyCo closer to landing a casino?
Expanding gaming is still a long shot in Kansas, but it took a step forward this week by winning approval of the House.
Casinos, slots get early OK in Kansas
A plan to allow a Wyandotte County casino and slot machines at the Woodlands racetrack won hard-fought first-round approval in the Kansas House early Saturday.
The gambling proposal, added to a bill renewing the state’s lottery, would also allow slots at tracks and a casino near Wichita, in Dodge City and in southeast Kansas. The vote was 65-50.
Though Saturday’s House vote is just one of several steps necessary to make the plan a reality, it’s a big deal for those who have worked for years to bring a casino to Wyandotte County.
“This is huge,” said Rep. Tom Burroughs, a Kansas City, Kan., Democrat who has long pushed for plans to bring a casino to his city. “This is the best position we’ve been in maybe ever.”
