I'm very much against the bailout of the old guard, but SWA would have a lot of the same issues if they were to fly international and not be able to jump into airports that were built for the old mega airlines.

I actually like United.  They are on the expensive side, but I've rarely been delayed and the flight attendants are friendly.  Their planes are beginning to age a little though.

I also flew to Spain on US Airways in 2004, and they just left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Our flight home from PHL was cancelled, and we had to wait in line for 5 hours to wait for 4 checkin agents to rebook us. 4 checkin agents for a line of over 5,000 passengers at your main hub???? That sucks. The planes were decent and inflight service was okay, but i don't want to fly with an airline that has major labor issues.....our bags were lost to add to the chaos....nice coming home from studying abroad without anything to wear! I've just had very bad experiences with US and don't have any desire to fly with them.

Oddly enough I actually snagged quite a fantastic airfare from KC to San Juan on United, leaving the day after Christmas. Flights from the USA mainland to Puerto Rico are notoriously expensive, many times ending up at over $1000 -- but I was pretty flexible in my arrangements and I managed to get a ticket to San Juan for just under $600 -- after taxes, fees, and everything. So I'm quite happy about that.

Hey, I was on Study Abroad as well in Spain when I took those US Airways flights -- connecting through Philly also. I left with the group in late January of 2004 and came back home on May 31, 2004. Fortunately we experienced no snafus through the whole flying experience with them though. We flew into Madrid and toured there, and then bussed southward into Andalucia over the following days, ultimately settling in Ronda for the semester.

Well it is now official, Southwest will offer 4 N/S to Dallas beginning December 13.  American plans to compete on those routes as well, they have not announced when they will start though.

SW starts service here in Denver next month.  I haven't heard if they'll have flights to KC or not, but it's caused Frontier to cut prices.  I prefer Frontier since they have DirecTV for each seat and so far I've had no problems with them at all.

I've flown United a couple times last month for work, mainly because I'm trying to get enough air miles to pay for a ticket on their Denver to Honolulu nonstop flight this winter.  No problems with United but they only had the TVs up over the aisles with pre-programmed crap.  Then they came by and offered a choice of 3 meals in a box (you had to be intuitive and turn to page 128 of their magazine to see what was in the boxes in advance) so I took one.  Then they demanded $5 on the spot.  Luckily I had the cash on me, but it wasn't worth it.

Hey you guys, I have a question: Is wireless Internet access available on flights while in the air? Or is that like five years down the road still?

The only carrier I know of that offers it is Lufthansa, a German airline.  None of the domestic airlines offer it yet.  In todays competitive society, it wouldn't suprise me if we start seeing it more often down the road.

I have a question i dont think that its goin to happen but dont you think that it would be really cool if airbus (the biggest airline in the world 500-800 people per plan) put a hub in KC.  It is very possible and that would most likely triple the number of passaangers a year through KCI if not more, after the trend catches on.  But KCI would ahve to build a new terminal or add to another and make a new runway and all of that shit, but since we are in thre middle of the country and the flights are meant to be very lone, you could fly from some eastern europena country to here then to La or somthing.  I think that it is possible and would be amazing if it happened!

Airbus is not an airline. They are an aircraft manufacturer. They make planes that hurt my ears when they land. They're very heavily used by companies like Air France and Aer Lingus.

Like bahua stated, Airbus is an aircraft manufacturer not an airline.  Their aircraft are used by foreign and domestic carriers.

Everyone's dream is to make KCI a hub.  This is simply not going to happen given our facilities and the gloomy economics that have stripped airlines of all of their cash.  Unless we build a fourth terminal, or if Midwest airlines finds that they have billions of dollars in their piggy bank, a hub is merely wishful thinking.

And on a sad note, those pesky Europeans at Airbus have recently upstaged our own Boeing in terms of being the most prominent, world-renowned commercial aircraft manufacturer. Now Boeing is playing second fiddle.

Nothing like heavily subsidised socialist monopolies to bring down forgen competitors. And they (the EU) had the balls to nix the GE takeover of Honeywell. BRILLIANT!!!

Beginning in February, Midwest Airlines will add two more N/S to the KC market.

1 N/S to Milwaukee (total of six daily)
1 N/S to Orlando (total of two daily)

This will bring the total count to 25 flights a day beginning in February.

is there a rough estimate on how many flights fly out of KCI in a week?

Airport Operational Statistics
Aircraft operations: avg 461/day
94%  commercial
5%  transient general aviation
<1%  military
<1%  local general aviation

This is according to AirNav( data posted on Oct 27 2005)

So per week roughly 3200 flights in and out of KC per week (assuming that on the weekends there are less flights than during the week)

American Airlines will begin 3 daily N/S between MCI and Dallas Love field beginning in March of 2006.  This is in response to Southwest Airlines, who recently (12-13) began service between MCI and Dallas Love field.

What pisses me off about AA offering the service, is that they'll be operating for a loss, a loss that we'll pay for with tax-derived subsidies.

As part of the move to Love, AA will be reducing the number of MCI-DFW flights from 12 to 8. So, in all we have a net loss from AA of two flights per day. At least we're not Providence, Long Beach, Lima Peru or Rochester, MN. They're losing all AA service to DFW to make room for the move to Love.

This is just idiotic in my opinion. One more reason I don't/won't fly American.
