They never meant for it to be public so it was put behind a login. Someone leaked the URL. They wanted it on a delay for security reasons and couldn't do that.

Same designer as our new terminal.. Goes to show that money is everything.

Hard to tell with a high level rendering but it appears the ratio of floor space to number of gates is lopsided toward far too much floor space.

And who is paying. I assume AA or another airline is highly involved in ORD and wanting high quality in their hub. Here. Nobody cares.

In an alternate universe, our airport would've been perfect for some sort of basic ornamentation to compensate for the lack of form. But, alas, modernism can never cope with low budgets, so all we get is a series of white and glass boxes.

FWIW, that rendering is of Studio Gang’s winning design. Not SOM’s.

I can see why they lost.

Honestly looks like a blown up version of ours. Big box, as is typical for SOM.

SOM’s O’hare Project is roughly 1.2 million SF for $1.4 billion. KCI is 1 million SF for $1.5 billion.

Below are SOM’s renderings of their O’Hare satellite concourse project. To me, it looks like a scaled up version of the KCI Project. Many features/amenities can be found in both (wood ceilings, Childs play area, large plantings, etc)
Let’s see how it ends up turning out.

The 1% art project will hopefully help here.

Structural steel and concrete slab foundations/concrete slab floor scopes went out to bid earlier this month.
