And to add, flying cars are already here. And have been here for years. One was in the 70's James Bond movie The Man With the Golden Gun. For other examples just Bing flying cars for many examples, or You Tube flying cars.
The arguments over parking for flying cars are going to be epic.

it's not the parking. how do you make everyone land at designated spots?

and think of the accidents from a DUI with a flying car.

When's the earliest construction will start on this site? I saw the YMCA would need a substantial fund raising and that takes time - serious time.

I believe in the article they said a 2016 opening will be possible IF fundraising and everything go exactly as planned.

my favorite part of the rendering is how they felt the need to remove a number of historic lights from view, but adding a fire hydrant was necessary

For some reason when I read this sentence it is in the voice of the "City Wok" man from South Park.

Peter DeSilva, president and chief operating officer of UMB Financial Corp., said the Y has been approached by the owner of the Lyric at 11th and Central streets, which was purchased by DST Realty in 2007.

In addition, VanTrust Real Estate is pitching to the Y a site in the East Village development area east of the J.E. Construction Co. garage at 11th and Cherry streets.

Did fund raising hit a snag? Cuz we already went through this site selection 2 years ago.

Here is a rendering of the proposed YMCA on Grand. I haven't seen it posted here before.

I don't know where the proposal stands now--since there was mention of re-using the Lyric Theater in a different YMCA plan.

Instead of the "put a bird on it" portlandia hipster quote- I think the KC urbanist design quote should be "put a tower on it".

Edit: B/C "put a tower on it" was actually my first thought...
