I haven't been, but it's located on 39th in the building that formerly housed chef Kamal's Yummy's restaurant. Before that, I am pretty sure it was a pet store that moved across the street into what was previously a new age bookstore. This was back when I lived in the neighborhood, so it was quite a few years ago.

It was Jerusalem Cafe just before changing to Smoke Burgers. I'd like to hear from anyone who has gone - I live in the neighborhood and it's always completely empty when I drive by. Just can't bring myself to try it, maybe I'm just imagining the poor service of Jerusalem mixed with owners that can't decide what type of cuisine to offer so they end up with a menu where they do a lot of things so-so but nothing great.

I've been. Had a burger. It was pretty good. They serve it on these little individual smoker contraptions that don't look all that clean. The burger was OK - maybe even good. Nothing special. They still have some middle eastern items on the menu too.

The inside of the place is... interesting. They have these random pieces of kitsch/hollywood/americana mixed with some NASCAR and other randomness. It's as if someone who had never been to the US decided to make their restaurant THE MOST AMERICAN PLACE EVER. Truly weird.

Van Morrison singing "The Eternal Kansas City" at a live recorded TV show in the Netherlands in 1977. From the album "A Period of Transition."

That Sonic couple is back, and in an ad that has gotten heavy play during the NCAA Tournament, they talk about the "Kansas City Shuffle."

Was wondering if they had something unique to every city?

I hadn't considered that. The Sonic account that came up with the idea of using those two comedians used to be handled by a KC ad firm, but I think they lost that account a few years ago.

Great interview with Jason Sudeikis a few nights ago on Letterman. Entire interview is pretty much all about KC (fast forward to the 19:55 mark). If only I had a dollar for every time I've had the KCK, KCMO convo with people while living in DC...

Letterman does a very good job explaining the border situation here in Kansas City that many people don't appear to understand.

KC seams like it becoming the "it" thing in advertizing lately, like it invokes this comfortable, non specific, everyman kind of place that no one would get offended by loving it or making fun of it.

When I was going through my advertising classes in journalism school at MU, we were told that Kansas City was a test market for many advertisers for that very reason: the "everyman kind of place."

Anthony Bourdain gives a shout out to KC and the host of Good Morning America enjoys some Oklahoma Joe's and Fiorella's.

On the Daily Show last night, they aired an old clip of a newscaster saying "if you want the best place for domestic abuse, its Topeka, Kansas" in reference to how they briefly said they wouldn't prosecute domestic abuse cases because of budget issues. This led to Jon Stewart t joke "if you want great BBQ, you have to go to Kansas City, but if you want domestic abuse, its Topeka."

I found this commercial from 1983 for American Cablevision (now Time Warner). This commercial ran nationally (kind of) and features some past mayors of KC, plus MYSELF as a baby, of course (at the :17 mark). Ah....the '80s!

Here's another commercial from 1991 that ran nationally (in places where American Cablevision was available), featuring places in downtown, the skyline, and the CHIEFS!!!! This is a much better commercial.

It's not specifically KC, but does anyone have a link to the Billy Smith, Tree Climbing Expert PSA that American Cablevision ran every 31 seconds during my youth?

That and the "Don't learn, electrical safety, by accident," commercial were perhaps my favorite commercials from the 80s not involving drug messages.
