I'm not because it matches comp sales. I'm more looking to facing jurisdictions to lower their rates if they really care. They won't.

We are not appealing. Our assessment is more accurate now than it has been in the 8 years we have owned the house. Has there been any word from the KCMSD about reducing their rates? IIRC they are the primary exemption from the state law limiting how much taxing jurisdictions can benefit from reassessments.

I'm appealing--did it four years ago and it got the valuation to a realistic level.

I'm appealing, but still asking for a 100% increase. I have no idea how they will process all of this crap.

I don’t understand why they’re wasting time on this! With an appeal, you have to claim what you think the property is worth. Just take everyone’s number and be done. The value claimed by residents will still be higher than years past.

We did not appeal. Our assessment in Morningside went up around 8%. Sucked but it's still valued around 50K less than we paid for the house 2 years ago. I worry that if we appealed JaxCo would actually INCREASE our assessment.

You and 250,000 other residents. Anyway how did you get away with a measly 8%?

Perhaps I missed it, but I haven’t seen any word from the KCMSD on whether they will reduce their levy. IIRC they are the only jurisdiction exempt from the state law requiring jurisdictions to reduce levies in situations like this. Pushing on them may be more productive than trying to keep Jackson County from raising assessments.

Chrizow, ours was only 10%, same situation.

Steve52, most everyone that lives in the Plaza/Brookside area "got away with" lower increases because we already were assessed at near market value, which means we have been carrying the weight for everyone that was assessed well below market value.

A friend of mine bought a house off of 75th in west Waldo last summer. That house was purchased on the cheap and had been flipped and bought for just over $200K. When I looked up his house, it was assessed at the pre-flip value and assessed at $99K.

this was my impression as well. i feel a lot of sympathy for working-class families or folks on a fixed income, who have lived in a neighborhood for a long time, whose assessments shot up 100%+ because they live in manheim park or troostwood, where home values are still overall pretty low, but where the value of a small % of renovated homes are skyrocketing. but for middle or high income folks who buy a renovated home in an up and coming area, i am not sure how much shock there can be when the home's assessment goes from 40K to 100K.

I'm with you. Agree on both comments.
