Here in Westport today, Mario's Delicatessan (sp?) has brown paper taped over its windows and a 'Closed' sign on the door. Redecorating or deceased? Anybody know?

Yes, it takes me 40 mins under normal traffic and weather conditions.Highlander wrote: Wow, that must be a huge commute for you!
On days like this when there is ice, it takes me closer to a full hour.
Fortunately, I "go against traffic" both ways. It is absolutely staggering to see thousands upon thousands of headlights heading west from MO into KS in the morning and the same sight going east in the evenings.

In November they were running weird/shortened hours due to renovations, so I hope this is just the finishing part of that. I would hate to lose that place! Love them grinders. Here in Westport today, Mario's Delicatessan (sp?) has brown paper taped over its windows and a 'Closed' sign on the door. Redecorating or deceased? Anybody know?
If it doesn't have street-level retail, it's an abortion.

Ok, I walked past Mario's today and a 'Remodeling- Open January 22nd' printout has replaced the 'Closed' sign. Phew.

Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants
Before McCoy's in Westport it was The Harris House. (and maybe something else)
The New Stanley
Before World Market there was Chuck's Steakhouse followed by Lynn Dickeys.
A special moment of silence for Torres, Kiki's and Norms Zesto Burgers (already mentioned)
My favorite munchie attack place from the 80's.... Popeyes at 39th and Broadway.
Classic Cup in Westport (good riddance - cigarette butt salad)
Before XO - Guitars and Cadillacs
Nick's RR Restaurant on Main.
And does anybody else remember the place downtown that had the huge pork tenderloin sandwiches? It was a little mom and pop place on Grand I think?

Guitars and Cadillacs! Woohoo! I remember the one in Olathe as being the first place I could illegally drink underage. I believe that building is now OklahomaJoe's!Cyclops wrote: Before McCoy's in Westport it was The Harris House. (and maybe something else)

It was the "Westport Brewing Co." in between. I believe they brewed a few crappy beers at first, but then gave it up to pursue being a full time dance club. It was awful. Before McCoy's in Westport it was The Harris House. (and maybe something else)

I was at johnny dares the night girls gone wild was there. It was lame! It was overcrowded, and the girls were not allowed to show much because of the alcohol.
XO was way overpriced, and the people seemed real clickish, so we didn't stay long.
Kellys was ok, seemed kinda slow. people were nice tho.

There used to be a place called the Santa Fe Saloon... wasn't it also in that building? This would have been around 1990-1991.WSPanic wrote: It was the "Westport Brewing Co." in between. The city made them close so they could widen the street.

^
the northland location is still open and they're searching for a location out south...of course it won't replace the character of the original.

I would love to see them move to midtown.

They're currently looking MUCH further south. Last rumor I heard was around the Martin City neighborhood.mean wrote: I would love to see them move to midtown.

That was Ross's Grill. First in the 1300 Block of Grand and then is was on Baltimore before it faded away. Man it hurts to remember how good that was.Cyclops wrote: And does anybody else remember the place downtown that had the huge pork tenderloin sandwiches?
