I really like the design.  It will be fun to come back to KC and see it once it is built.  My only fear is that someone might call it the Glitter Dome....

speaking of which^ are they going to have different lights and what not on the arena?  Or are they going to stick to one color.....  I know they never said they would, but it seems like that could be cool every once in a while.  I think it'd be fine if it were one color most of the year, but it could be cool if they did special color changes during Winter.
KC Region is all part of the same animal regardless of state and county lines.

I don't think there's going to be any kind of special lighting for the arena, just the standard interior lighting showing through the semi-translucent glass. There hasn't been any mention of lighting effects recently, and now they talk about how the glass reflecting downtown's buildings will make the appearance of the arena change depending on viewing angle, sunlight, etc. Roughly translated: colored lighting and lighting effects were too expensive, so we're using reflective glass, and the natural/existing lights and buildings to do it for us.

My opinion: A good comprimise. An ever-changing arena exterior essentially for free. As cool as Allianz? Not in my opinion. As cool as the effects shown on the Saucer design? Not in my opinion. Better than recent arena designs? Absolutely.

Final thought: I hope they get the glass right, or this could end up not working right. (Nelson anyone?)

The Sprint design from a couple of months ago looked much more like the Munich arena. I wonder if that's why they did away with the angled window panels?

The design of the arena is not bad.  However, it is not final since the building cost of $160,000,000 exceeds the budget of $140,000,000 set aside for construction.  How is the difference being made up?

Given what has happened to the Superdome and its wind damage along with the hotels in NO maybe some concern should be expressed about how the glass will respond to high winds, like from a tornado.
I may be right.  I may be wrong.  But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

yeah, lets build all our buildings like kemper, and perhaps the metrodome in minneapolis in minn to be careful of a tornado. who cares, shit happens. there have been a lot of talll buildings in kcmo made of glass for 25 years, and they have been fine. so will the arena.

and it will overrun costs, pretty much all major projects do. who pays for it? rental car and hotel customers. good. let em.

If every town prone to tornados had this attitude,  there would be no glass towers over a huge swath of the US.  Dallas and Ft Worth are smack in the middle of tornado alley and have a tremendous amount of glass buildings.   Unlike the very real prossibility that a hurricane may hit any given city on the gulf coast, the chances of a particular piece of real estate in the midwest being struck in ones lifetime by a tornado is incredibly small.

so fucken what, how often does an f4 hit, or a hurricane the size of katrina hit? i have been going to new orleans, la, with some regularity since 1990. and i became somewhat learned on their ways of burial ( above ground ) and pumps all over the city to drain water fast in a big storm, which they have weekly. and as far as us, and texas, we train for tornadoes at work, school, etc. we get ready for them, but they dont hit that often.

I understand your point and mostly agree that without any glass buildings or arenas the cityscape would be bland. I was just stating that if something was to happen, it would be costly.
