Not in this city! Developer said the same. Major plan amendment filed this week

What are the odds this building never gets built?

Low, I think I read they have the loan already.

Copaken has a decent track record of downtown apartment building. Abysmal record of office construction, but obviously they’ve been able to get apartments off the ground

Has the stone front come down yet?

If they are going to take it to the dump, I want to get some pieces.

I’d plan to check 1818 site at least daily if you want pieces.

The stories in those walls could write quite a book.

Love the image of the crumbling walls juxtaposed with the shining futurism of the TWA rocket and Bartle Sky Stations.

Revised plans for the taller building have been submitted. 16-stories, 191ft. Up for review at City Planning Commission on May 22nd. The design is slightly improved, but still carries many of the same characteristics as before (all metal, gray). I do apreciate the refresh of the Main Street elevation. Resorting to just Juliet balconies after the 10th floor is an interesting choice. The Main Street elevation looks like it's trying to imitate Art Deco, but just barely.

Residents of the condo building on Baltimore who own a condo facing east will have a brick wall just across the alley from them.

For the record, this is now 41ft taller than Reverb. It went from being shorter than Reverb to taller.

The new front of the building has an art deco design.

I still maintain they could have reused the facade of the old bank building in their design.

Yeah very art deco and agree Fang they could have reused that facade. Sucks to lose.

Someone get @grid in here, we got a tower crane coming, update the map!

Calling arranging aluminum panels vertically "art deco design" is quite a stretch. At the expense of losing a window on each floor.

The roof line is what gave me those vibes but I'm far from an architectural scholar.

I can see that. Maybe if it had some pastel color it would be sorta budget neo Miami Beach.
Why did they have to make the facade design asymetrical though?

I should have been more specific in that the new design makes subtle reference to streamline moderne art deco in its use of vertical bands. The vertical bands didn't exist in previous designs. Please don't make me post a bunch of examples of buildings from the art deco era in Miami that don't have pastels.

Westport Central on Armour Boulevard uses vertical bands.

From our property manager:
The 1818 Main developer has advised that the Streetcar Authority is requiring them to finish demolishing the old building during overnight hours, after streetcar operations have ended for the day. They plan to do this late Monday night (April 22) into Tuesday morning (April 23).
Presumably this is when the bank facade will come down.
