Post on Reddit about hotels prices the weekend of sept 22-24th being over $300 for even economic hotels, like Hamptons and Residents Inns, all over the metro. Weekend of Sept 22-24 we have

Plaza Art Fair
UMKC parent weekend
KU parents weekend
KU vs BYU
Chiefs vs Bears
Some big Soccer tournament
Guns and Roses

Hotels across the metro at capacity from a confluence of events.

I've just checked booking.com. City economy hotels are about that but near airport it's about $150 for economy with rooms available.

There are a ton of Bears fans traveling for this one. Ticket prices are the highest for the entire season, including last Thursday night, by a lot.

Crowne Plaza Hotel has been:

Holiday Inn City Center (opened in 1970)
Quality Inn Americana Hotel
Americana Hotel
Omni Hotel
Doubletree Hotel
Radisson Hotel
Crowne Plaza

By 1991 (21 years after it opened), the hotel had deteriorated greatly, and proposals were put forth to renovate it into a convention hotel. This included a plan to add an additional 500 rooms and a 380-space garage. I'm assuming this addition would have been to the south of the present building.
I have the full set of 1969 blueprints for this Oberlechner monolith, if anyone wants them. LOL. Offered to current management, who declined.

[Actually, I think we trashed them in the last Deffenbaugh recycling pick-up.]
If you still have those by chance I'd love to use them to make some neat wall prints!

Nationally according to PromoLeaf, trade show attendance from January to September 2023 was 20% lower than the same period in 2019. Looks like personal travel/tourism has helped offset biz/trade show losses.
