Former Google Fiber Space on Westport Rd

Post by Metro »

Couldn't find a thread on this but what are we doing here? Looks like demo is about to begin and they are putting in a Chipotle with a drive through. Seems like a giant missed opportunity

Yeah, sad project. So much retail space removed for one drive-through joint.

Also, I think they told the neighborhood they were going to retain the 'Volker' monument sign. It looked like that was the first thing they demolished. Might be that they moved it to be reinstalled. Not sure.

They're calling it a "chipotlane" and were very clear to emphasize that it's not a drive-thru. But yes, it effectively a drive thru. I'm sure it will be filled with cars in no time. Such a lazy project. Based on the plans i saw it might as well just be a surface lot, the building itself took up 15% of the overall area. However it meets current code and does not require any variances.

If there is any upside its that the city codes are apparently modern enough that at least the building fronts the road and it's not set back behind the parking lot.

We desperately need a form based code and no parking mandates.

People are such dumb asses that even though it's not a drive-thru, but rather a place to pick up mobile or delivery orders, there will still be a constant number of customers not understanding that they can't order like a regular drive thru. This place will be one huge cluster lol. Let's hope they don't allow traffic to turn onto EB Westport Rd from the current driveway.

The company itself calls them Drive Thru's. Emphasis mine
Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) today announced the opening of its 500th restaurant with a Chipotlane®, the brand's digital order drive thru pick-up lane. Located in Louisville, Kentucky, the milestone opening underscores the brand's ongoing commitment to driving access and convenience to real food made with true culinary every day.

"We are thrilled to celebrate this landmark Chipotlane opening," said Tabassum Zalotrawala, Chief Development Officer. "Chipotlanes are the digital drive thru of the future and a key piece of our growth strategy as we plan to more than double our restaurant count over the long term to achieve 7,000 restaurants or more in North America."
