House Bill-2067 pre-filed on Wednesday by Representative Don Mayhew would change the name of Interstate-70 from the Kansas-Missouri state line to the Missouri-Illinois line to Interstate-44.
The bill would also change the name of Interstate-44 stretching from its current boundary in the St. Louis area to the Missouri-Oklahoma line to Interstate-70.
His district covers part of I-44. He's mad that 44 isn't getting upgraded to three lanes. Performative pandering to his base. Bill has already passed to widen 70. Change all the signs on 44 to 70, and like a Loony Tunes cartoon, they widen between St. Louis and Joplin instead.

He got a St Louis democrat to co-sponsor the bill which also doesn't make any sense. There's a good reason why I-70 is being widened. I44 is comparatively a pretty easy drive through southern Missouri. I hate when our elected representatives waste time like this.
Especially that no entity of the State of Mo has the power to do this. Its why we don't have interstates in the south named after confederate insurrectionists.
Obviously a publicity stunt. I don't want to see billions of taxpayer money spent on either highway when we should be investing in rail (freight and passenger), but with that said I-44 carries more freight than 70 across the state.
