The longtime Greyhound terminal at 1101 Troost Ave., in the Paseo West area, recently was acquired by an affiliate of Twenty Lake Holdings LLC, a real estate investment and management firm based in Stamford, Connecticut. The seller was FirstGroup plc, a British public transport provider and former owner of the Greyhound intercity bus service.

Whether or not they plan to redevelop that site, at some point that would be a very attractive site to redevelop for a building with a parking garage because it's on a grade and most of the parcel is already mostly excavated.

They've been wanting to offload their properties for a long time, including KC. Megabus showed that is basically not necessary to own real estate like that (especially when you can't afford to maintain it). There really needs to push for intermodal consolidation at the federal level...

It really wouldn't be that hard to have the bus terminal underneath the front plaza of Union Station. Buses could enter on the east side from Grand onto subterranean OK Street. Then have the buses pull to the left and sit where the car parking spots are to disembark and load. It appears there is enough room to park three or four buses at the same time. The ticket office would be in the basement.

Since Union Station sold the East Yards to Blue Cross/Blue Shield, there might also be an opportunity to put a new bus terminal somewhere there. That way one could bypass Union Station leadership but still create a multi-modal transportation hub in the area.
There would need to be an elevator available to take people up to Main Street whether it be in a new structure or somehow using the BC/BS building.

Amtrak and Greyhound already share some coordinated departures ("Thruway Bus Service"), but not in KC. Co-locating the intercity services would make that seamless and it's very much a best practice in place in St. Louis, DC, LA, and so on.
