Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
seems you could do a stress test with a faux secured area. I'm sure there is some FAA sign off when they officially "secure" the airside.
Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
With security screening itself being a major item (and presumably one of the last) to stress test, I'd be shocked if the TSA and/or FAA don't already have a system in place to generate faux boarding passes for such purposes - presumably, it's how non-ticketed passenger access already works in several other US airports.

Wow. That’s barbed wire?
That’s beautiful. I didn’t know barbed wire could look like that

I mean…did you see the water issues in the old terminal buildings that didn’t include a fountain? It’s definitely a serious consideration, especially above passenger luggage…im2kull wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 10:20 pmRed herringnormalthings wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 10:47 pmA major reason for the water fountain being removed is that this is directly above the baggage sortation room. Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
There's already going to be fire suppression lines and water lines running directly above both the actual baggage handling area, and this hall. As such, adding an actual fountain is a moot point if water damage is your concern. The only real concern was cost, and clearly we're doing what saves the contractor the most cost.Anthony_Hugo98 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 8:48 amI mean…did you see the water issues in the old terminal buildings that didn’t include a fountain? Why did they change it from the original selection?

Displays are being installed. The metal holders are extremely ugly imho
Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
just got back from NYC where we took our oldest daughter for a little spring break getaway. great trip - also got to check out the new Terminal B at LGA - which cost $4 billion.
from a design standpoint, it's pretty impressive - some nice design features, including a cool "subway tile" art mural in the main ticketing area, sculptural elements along the walls and ceilings, lots of windows and natural light, high ceilings, a pretty nice selection of dining and browsing options, a giant I <3 NY thing for travel selfies, etc. i have no idea if they cut corners from the original design, but to me it looked like they made an effort to make it distinctive and nice inside. (like most airports, i didn't even notice the exterior - seemed fine).
functionally, the new terminal B was kind of odd. it felt like you had to walk an oddly vast distance to get to the gate area, including 2 or 3 large escalators. most distressingly, there was a bizarre absence of outlets and charging stations in the gate areas. it was busy and there were large queues for both the mens and womens restrooms--which was a little awkward b/c they all shared "co-ed" entryways. i saw more than one woman walk presumably unintentionally through the mens restroom. the security line was the longest i have ever encountered anywhere, snaking all the way through the large cordoned-line area and across the entire, massive ticketing area--but the line moved really fast, it maybe took 30 minutes to get through security.
side-note: f*ck american airlines. we were scheduled to fly back direct to KC at 2:30pm Friday. flight was delayed 3 hours - they announced because "the crew did not show up." then the flight was cancelled altogether about an hour later. we all queued up at the gate to ask about next steps - instead of announcing to everyone where to go to rebook, we all waited in line for 15+ min to be told individually to walk 20 minutes to the opposite side of the terminal to queue up at the rebooking desk.
we go to the rebooking desk and wait in line for over 3 hours. (yes, i also called customer service, and was told to wait at the rebooking desk b/c those agents would allegedly have the best options for rebooking, which we learned was a lie) after waiting 3 hours, we were told the next available flights to KC would be 3-4 days later, on MONDAY OR TUESDAY - monday if we wanted god-awful 12+ hour layover situations, tuesday if we wanted direct or more normal layover situations. we were also told AA would not offer vouchers for hotels or meals, b/c the cancellation was due to "weather." we all told them there was no weather - the gate agent had told us it was a crew issue - but b/c someone clicked "weather" on the computer, there would be no vouchers. some larger groups were told Wed-Thurs for rebooking. later, the agents starting explaining the weather in question had actually occurred 2-3 days earlier. we pulled up MCI flight status and noted plenty of flights were arriving in KC with no problem - just not AA flights. as you can imagine, things got tense - in fact, a single dad, traveling with an autistic child, was actually escorted out by security for raising his voice at the agents. since we could not deal with a 3-4 day layover, we got on a direct flight to St. Louis the next day, assuming we could rent a car and drive to KC. wrong - there was not a single rental car available in the STL metro area for a one-way dropoff. luckily, a family member was willing to drive from KC to STL to pick us up, otherwise we would have been stranded.
i am about to file a formal complaint with AA and the FAA and try to get some $ for our expenses and hassle and AA's atrocious business practices - if anyone has advice in this regard, please let me know.

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
100%. I had a similar experience last fall. The plane was actually boarding. I was just about to board myself when they stopped while the gate agent worked their desk phone. Pilot showed up during this, conversed with the gate agent for a second, I heard him saying, fuck that, board the plane and he walked on the plane. Agent boards two more people, gets a call, stops boarding and says flight is cancelled (not over the PA mind you, just to us personally). We ask why and he says, uhh, maintenance issues. I later find out it is because they wanted to use the plane for a different route. They had a PILOT ready to go home, but they cancelled it anyway and totally fucked everyone getting ready to board. Same situation where it was impossible to get a flight that day, they had zero customer service to help rebook.. just total bullshit. They should have to buy you another ticket on another airline if they can't fulfill their end of the bargain on the day you book and don't give 48 hrs notice.chrizow wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 10:24 am side-note: f*ck american airlines. we were scheduled to fly back direct to KC at 2:30pm Friday. flight was delayed 3 hours - they announced because "the crew did not show up." then the flight was cancelled altogether about an hour later. we all queued up at the gate to ask about next steps - instead of announcing to everyone where to go to rebook, we all waited in line for 15+ min to be told individually to walk 20 minutes to the opposite side of the terminal to queue up at the rebooking desk.
Totally pointless to do it for AA. I don't know how to with FAA
Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
I refuse to fly American. I don't see how they stay in business.
