Lawrence ranked #1 for tech worker growth per capita recently. Article implies they are attracting remote workers.

This would feel soooo much better if we could just add Lawrence into our metro. Please please can we do that.earthling wrote: ↑Thu Mar 10, 2022 10:04 am Lawrence ranked #1 for tech worker growth per capita recently. Article implies they are attracting remote workers.

Re: KC sci|tech|startups|entrepreneurial thread
Given that Lawrence is a separate 'metro' the tech worker growth may have come from KC as remote workers.

According to CompTIA, KC ranked 24th in 2021 for tech jobs and ranks 17th for projected adds in 2022 for about 80K by end of 2022.

Re: KC sci|tech|startups|entrepreneurial thread
If I'm reading it right looks like KC ranked 41st in tech jobs added in 2021. So good to hear KC is projected to gain some ground back in 22.earthling wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 3:08 pm According to CompTIA, KC ranked 24th in 2021 for tech jobs and ranks 17th for projected adds in 2022 for about 80K by end of 2022.

Re: KC sci|tech|startups|entrepreneurial thread
This shows % of local tech jobs that work for an actual tech company, like a software company such as Cerner rather than say an IT software developer for an Insurance company. KC is probably high partly due to Cerner but there are a good number of actual tech companies in KC too. FIRE below means IT jobs in Financials, Insurance, Real Estate.
KC has a decent number of tech degrees per capita considering no major university but tech job growth slowed down, high growth in software developers but decrease in tech support/system admin.
KC did OK pre-pandemic attracting young people (brain gain), at least relative to many markets losing young people...
Note that this source has a much stricter definition of a tech job than CompTIA in previous post, which shows about 25K more tech jobs in KC with higher growth based on their classification of a 'tech' job.

Re: KC sci|tech|startups|entrepreneurial thread
According to this, KC is significantly growing software developers but losing PC/systems/DBA support and tech engineering jobs, maybe due to cloud transitions and IT manager losses with DST gone and Tmobile shift, etc.. Data center momentum might help some but will be years in the making. KC ranks within top 25 for software developer employment.
