I imagine the KCK park will be sold before this is all over.

It will join the long list for former amusement parks in the area.

Schlitterbahn quiet on summer plans for KCK water park
http://tinyurl.com/yxgv4zrh...
A Schlitterbahn spokeswoman told The Kansas City Star that there was no news about the local water park. But tickets are not for sale on the local park’s website and a Schlitterbahn job website lists no positions available in KCK, The Star reports.

I think it's been obvious for a year that Schlitterbahn has no interest in re-opening the park. It won't open this year at all and will probably re-open under new ownership (possibly as a city owned waterpark) the following year. If it sits vacant more than a year, it will likely be torn down completely due to deterioration. But Schlitterbahn is done with Kansas. That's for sure.

Re: Schlitterbahn Waterpark and Resort
Cedar Fair has a preliminary agreement to buy all but the Galveston Schlitterbahn location. Cedar Fair has some pretty deep pockets if they wanted to keep and invest in the KCK location, but I'm not sure they'd keep it open given they already own Oceans of Fun. Even if they do keep it open, the days of free parking and bringing in outside coolers will be over.GRID wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2019 2:04 pm I think it's been obvious for a year that Schlitterbahn has no interest in re-opening the park. Good to see star bonds still alive. Why in the hell would a menards need star bonds. JFC.
Already used them to pay for and now destroy a stupid water park built in the dumbest location anybody could possibly ever come up with for a water park. And now another youth sports complex.
Meanwhile the rest of KCK is literally a time warp back to 1981 only it hasn't aged well.

Yes, State Avenue heading east from Schlitterbahn is a world away from the glittering (but aging now) Village West area. Nothing new has been built there seemingly in decades, save for some facade updates.GRID wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 5:28 pm Good to see star bonds still alive. All of that is west, not east.flyingember wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 10:54 amDecades (plural) is far from truemistervinix wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 10:21 amYes, State Avenue heading east from Schlitterbahn is a world away from the glittering (but aging now) Village West area. Ah yes, so it does say that.
But that's not true either. East of 435 has seen development
DFA moved there post-2015 and is accessed off State Ave
Menards as mentioned
the soccer fields between 2015 and 2017
Schlitterbahn was under construction in 2010 so this very thread shows us something has happened in the past 20 years

Re: Schlitterbahn Waterpark and Resort
You have to be kidding right? Outside the "435 corridor" KCK has not changed for the better in decades and everything out there along 435 is extremely subsidized.flyingember wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 12:03 pm Ah yes, so it does say that.

Subsidized sprawl along 435 while the rest of the actual built up part of the city rots away. And KCMO gets all the pushback for how they use incentives.
I for one am glad that KCMO didn't build the P&L district (along with H&R Block, the arena etc) up near smithville.

Absolutely nothing? Really????
So KU Med hasn't changed for the better in decades? Just a bunch of worthless buildings?
What about Google Fiber? It didn't make anything better about KCK?
The Amazon warehouse? There was nothing good about this project at all?
The Riverfront Heritage Trail? Worthless?
The downtown casino, new transit center and streetscape work? All wastes of money with nothing good resulting?

Re: Schlitterbahn Waterpark and Resort
My original post was focusing on State Avenue. Which has had almost no substantial investment in years, as is readily apparent when one drives EAST from the Village West area. The contrast is stunning. The one bright spot is the area around the redeveloped Price Chopper. But just south of there at I-70 sits an empty Cracker Barrel. And the area around the former Indian Springs mall is sad and decaying.flyingember wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 1:05 pmAbsolutely nothing? Really????

Re: Schlitterbahn Waterpark and Resort
You can cherry pick a few things, but for the most part, KCK has not changed and much of it has decayed, especially downtown. The downtown casino? Come on.flyingember wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 1:05 pmAbsolutely nothing? Really????

I'll give you KU Med, I always forget that's in KCK, it's much more tied to midtown KCMO.
