Re: COVID-19 Casualties
ice house reopens today according to their social media posts. going to be open for dinner tuesday-thursday and normal hours friday-saturday going forward. pretty severe reduction in hours. hopefully that will expand as it gets nicer out.
their original message was that they would reopen march 1. i didn't put too much in that at the time, but they're actually hitting it. so that's cool. a rare bit of good news on this godforsaken thread.

Re: COVID-19 Casualties
I heard they changed their menu, I hope we can still get standard Joe's BBQ items.

Re: COVID-19 Casualties
they tweaked it even during the year last year, e.g. i think there was a shortage of one meat or the other so they added joe's turkey. anyway, the social media posts suggest they have "the same joeskc smoked meats" so presumably at least some of the mainstays will still be there.

Not sure if the online menu is up to date but it has the items I remember and the "new" things that were announced like nachos and chicken sandwich?

Re: COVID-19 Casualties
we checked it out on the patio last night. it looks like basically the same menu plus some new stuff (burnt end taquitos, boneless wings, fried chicken sandwich, burnt end mac cheese). everything tasted about the same. glad to have it back.

Re: COVID-19 Casualties
I wonder what parameters CDC will want to see before suggesting lifting restrictions. What Texas is doing is probably too early and too many changes at once but it does make sense to start lifting restrictions on gatherings this year while still mandating masks. Texas is getting rid of both at same time. Will be interesting to see how the stats play out with that dangerous experiment, especially with the new variants expected to dominate late March/April.
Opening up while mandating masks seems to be a reasonably balanced compromise.

Re: COVID-19 Casualties
I saw a physician on MSNBC this morning saying that in a month it might be okay to start lifting restrictions in some places depending on the infection rate there, but now is not the time. President Biden just said that every adult in the country could be vaccinated by May instead of July -- so he's moved up the deadline by two months.
Governor Abbott appears to be ignoring how exhausted hospital workers are. They don't need hospitalizations to spike again. The other thing that isn't being talked about is how many hospitals are going to get stuck with uncompensated care costs. Many COVID dead and survivors won't be able to pay their bills. Stupid policy that causes hospitalizations to go up unnecessarily again only adds to hospitals' budget woes.

Our health care crisis, exacerbated by the pandemic, will be remembered as one of the main factors in the fall of the American Empire.

Re: COVID-19 Casualties
It's much more expensive to treat COVID in the USA than many places simply because our health care system is more expensive.

Debatable. Our healthcare outcomes overall are worse, so apparently you don't get what you pay for.

Which one is "our" vaccine?
The US-German one?
The US one?
Or the US one?
