If takeout continues its increased popularity, emphasis should be placed on adding more takeout counters or hole-in-the-wall places.

Did the Hy-Vee distribution center closing (https://www.kcur.org/economy/2020-03-10 ... -lose-jobs) actually happen? Seems like exceptionally poor timing, if so.

Appears Brookside is already celebrating the good times this weekend. Waitress on left only one wearing a mask.

College Kids on Armour/Baltimore were having a full on apartment porch party yesterday afternoon. Everyone was within inches of each other

When anything goes, don’t expect people to do the right thing, or even know what it is.

Re: COVID-19 Casualties
I heard the second iteration of Plaza III has closed permanently. Given their waning popularity on the Plaza, I suspect this may have happened with or without CV19.

Hadaad strikes again. Their ruination of everything they have touched is almost complete.

Meanwhile drive-in movies are making a comeback, though niche. Like bookstores and record stores, the Internet (and home theaters) will drive movie theaters to becoming a niche option, or at least will be downsized. It was inevitable at some point but COVID is obviously pushing it to happen sooner. The era of 12+ screen complexes is probably over anyway.FangKC wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 10:26 pm AMC Theatres has 'substantial doubt' it can remain in business

Damn. I enjoyed Jacobson.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 8:59 am Added Jacobson to the list. Gotten independent confirmation that the Parkway restaurant people bought it up and are renovating it. There is definitely a lot of work going on at the site.

B&B in Liberty has an option that shows where the film market could go. While they have super large screens, they also have smaller more intimate options.earthling wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 5:21 amMeanwhile drive-in movies are making a comeback, though niche. Instead of a 24 screen theatre with giant projection systems and 300 seats, I would expect they shift towards offering smaller premium experiences and double up the spaces in a renovation.
More Bar + dinner theater options and less popcorn and soda to increase the average per customer cost
More leather recliners and less long rows of airline seats. More family seating
Having more special events with older movies of note that are best on the big screen like Jaws, BTTF, Godfather, Casablanca, 2001, ET. With more spaces it becomes possible to mix in a single showing so the people who wish they could have seen a specific movie on the big screen can. One time only, $20 per person to see Jaws on the big screen could be worth it for many.
More premium one time esoteric events like silent films with a live piano player. A set of three Buster Keaton shorts would be an interesting group experience and likely being out of copyright this would be profitable even at a small scale.
Theatre shows can use movie threatres much like Hamilton is coming to Disney+ with a special recorded version. I can see having a live show that's designed to be simulcast so it's live in the theatre each night for a week or two.

Re: COVID-19 Casualties
Traditional theater seats have sucked for decades. They need to upgrade in all theater auditoriums if they want to stay relevant. A large number of Americans are too fat for seats of that size anyway. I also don't like having to share an armrest, or having my knees pressed against the seat in front of me. I always try to get an aisle seat for this reason.
