Looks like they're open about it being a pyramid scheme.

Following up here, I wish we knew why they covered up all of the signage and symbols - permitting issues? I think these guys did a bang up job on the building reno and I love both the rooftop sign and the weird lit symbols at street level. A strangely solid addition to downtown, aesthetically.

This one is probably stupid simple.rxlexi wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 10:48 am Following up here, I wish we knew why they covered up all of the signage and symbols - permitting issues? They'll remove the covering the day they hold their official building opening event.

The only thing worse than a rooftop sign for the church of scientology is a hastily covered rooftop sign for the church of scientology

Scientologist own the NW corner of 18th and Walnut now. Could 18th street become Scientologist row?

Maybe David Miscavige will parachute to the rooftop to illuminate the sign.

The symbols covered up on the lower floors are exposed in Google street view.

The 'grand opening' is today. Everything has the covers removed and there are banners galore. 18th is closed from Grand-McGee and there's production hardware blocking every pedestrian pathway around the place. Welcome to the neighborhood...

They famously did a harassment campaign against the IRS to get tax exempt status.

Or could have went down there, talked to the PD, and had the same outcome 60 minutes quicker.

Re: OFFICIAL - City Bank Building (Church of Scientology)
A few days back, there was an article about the good church and Clearwater Florida. Apparently, the church has chosen Clearwater as their ground zero. They own some huge hotel and have a big compound in Clearwater. Anyhow, the article details how the church has been buying land and/or businesses within near proximity to their compound. They own either directly or indirectly a good chunk of downtown Clearwater. Just makes me wonder what their plans are for KC?

If the circumstances are true, why would KCPD get involved to begin with?

Did McClatchy used to own the building before the Scientologists?
