Lucas’s sole focus on “affordable housing crisis” is not winning him many non-core votes. I doubt tonight’s comments saying downtown is overbuilding will win many downtown votes.
A quick look at our peers, and even cities smaller than us, shows that we are falling behind in regards to urban construction, etc.
However, cities like Nashville, Austin, and Indianapolis have failed to build BRT/Light Rail/Streetcar. Jolie’s plan for regional transit would leapfrog us past our competitors and provide us a real competitive advantage.

The east side usually makes up 60% of votes in an election
Justus said her department of transportation would not be another city office; it would coordinate the city services, such as fixing existing streets or building new ones.
"We don't have that right now. There is no framework or single playbook that we're working from," Justus said.
Justus' plan would also include coordination with the city's streetcar system and the ATA bus system, which is another agency. Justus said this would not be a takeover.
"What I want is one person at City Hall who is responsible for being the liaison with the KCATA and with the streetcar authority," Justus said.
I love the idea and am interested in more details regarding how she would implement it. It’s a lot bolder move than Lucas is giving credit for or he is showing a real lack of understanding of how this would impact city operations.
Did anyone catch Jolies horrible idea regarding a city department of transportation? Instead of putting money towards the capital necessary to fix the issues, given the various departments and crews we already have, we should totally just put more money into staffing another person inside City Hall that can figure out how to do all of this.
Winging project coordination is short-term thinking. You spend the money coordinating or you spend money on rework from a lack of coordination. Public Works' fee table alone makes me think the former is a superior idea.
We can either build projects one by one with blinders on or take a comprehensive planning approach to projects. If someone prefers the former, I'm sure they would never complain when a street is repaved and then torn up for utility repair the following year.

Not a horrible idea at all. Why continue spending extra dollars to have a recently paved road torn up for utilities and then repaved in a shitty manner leading to costly repairs for years? Maybe it's just lip service, but what's wrong with trying to find efficiencies in a bureaucratic system? I get it - you don't like Jolie, but I can't get on board in thinking this idea is bad.

LOL HORRIBLE.
Because better coordination/consolidation of at least four (?) departments that handle transportation issues is a bad idea.
Steve Miller crashed and burned because potholes and no other message.

Yeah our roads are crumbling because we don't have enough government departments has nothing to do with the budget shortfalls because of bought and paid for politicians like Justus are more focused on giving handouts to millionaires.

Our roads are crumbling because we have too many roads and too few people. The city continues to sprawl because of huge subsidies and incentives given by the Federal/State/City governments to predominantly wealthier suburbanites.

Plenty of cities have sprawl and their infrastructure isnt nearly as bad. For fucks sake the EPA had to come in and tell the city you have to have a street sweeper. That's how embarrassing our city leadership is.
Kansas City is one of the most sprawled central cities in the US. It’s well established that our road-population and road-wealth ratios are well above average
Nobody is denying that but you are making excuses and overlooked other facts. BTW Johnson & Platte county are growing because they don't want to live in a shithole that can't fill a pothole and it's citizens ignore one of the worst crime rates in the country with poor public education.

You are just trolling. These thoughts don't even make sense together. Maybe next bring up metal plates and then just throw in TIF to complete your funkhouser bingo card.
