Okay. I'll probably start posting in batches unless anything interesting comes up. I took a stupid amount of pictures today I'll sort through later. I'm shit at photography too.
I'm mildly obsessed with this door though. I didn't even know it was there.

That base is definitely for a construction elevator, not a crane. The windows have been removed on all floors directly above the base they just poured.
Re: OFFICIAL - Embassy Suites (former Federal Reserve)
I was going to comment on the addition of pedestrian access as well as the removal of some windows on the South and West sides.
Re: OFFICIAL - Embassy Suites (former Federal Reserve)
Yeah, credit when credit is due - they've kept pedestrian access open. Which has actually made this area more pleasant to walk in the winter without pigeons and bird poop everywhere lol
So I guess they succeeded by failing for so long.

Re: OFFICIAL - Embassy Suites (former Federal Reserve)
Things would be much smoother if projects could have 100% closure with a temp sidewalk required to do so and no minimum time otherwise. This would be dramatically simpler for developers and there wouldn't need to be permit enforcement (roll the costs into their project plan permit).
It would be stupid simple to enforce. Is the sidewalk closed? Is there a temp sidewalk? would be the only two questions. No need to research permits, no worry about what happens if their permit ends on a Sunday or anything else.

Not sure I'm following you. You're saying get rid of the few weeks grace period (and renewals) and make them build out the temporary sidewalk first? Anything that keeps pedestrian access open, I support.flyingember wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 9:41 amThings would be much smoother if projects could have 100% closure with a temp sidewalk required to do so and no minimum time otherwise. This place had code violations for two years though and the city did nothing, so I'm not sure I buy your simple to enforce argument.
Re: OFFICIAL - Embassy Suites (former Federal Reserve)
Because the city now requires it. I guarantee their first traffic control plan didn't have it. That behavior is still pretty rampant and everything thinks they're entitled to an exception.

I assume we can take from this that they're not removing the planters/barricades, as well.
I'd like them to take out the ones blocking the crosswalks, but if they landscape it could be okay.
Wish we could hear more about this place.

I'm surprised how quietly this project started.

I'm glad they finally pulled that boom truck back from the corner. It was making it really had to see to safely cross 10th street from the north.

So what's the plan for the squat fortress-like building just east of the taller portion of the Federal Reserve? Is it part of the renovation?

The garage is included in the historic listing, believe it or not.
