There are 3 new renderings as of yesterday.

I see the art deco that the architect was talking about.

Looks as if the sky walks over the road have been eliminated from the design as well. I don't agree with that. I'm not really into crossing a four lane freeway.

Putting these all together for the sake of convenience.

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Honestly I think deco-esque architecture should be used sparingly in this city. It's one of the reasons I'm glad the deco-revival version of the P&L district got scrapped. Too kitchy.
If you're going to design an airport based on local kc architecture, I think the best choice would be the sort of midcentury futurist styles like at the downtown airport or truman sports complex. Something with curves

I like the idea of using art deco elements but I have no idea how to pull it off well.

Wood is pretty big in architecture at this moment. All the big tech firms are building large wood buildings. Europe has a lot of new wood structures including some high rises. SOM has been researching wood skyscrapers for years. The shift is to replace concrete/steel structures with wood.

Pretty sure the airport will not be a wood structure.
Wood finishes with lots of daylight seem like a good combo after the current KCI.

The LaGuardia overhaul is costing 8 billion. 4 billion for the Delta terminal alone. LaGaurdia is the 21st busiest airport in the US with a little less than 2.5X more flights than KC per year (KC is the 40th busiest). KC's 1.something billion dollar terminal seems a proportionately smaller in terms of cost.

Ok ,so you don't see any of the streamline moderne which is a later form of art deco in the design of the garage? And yes the architect said he liked the art deco architecture in kc and was going to use elements of it in the design of the airport.

I would not call two curved end walls art deco or streamlined moderne. You can see curved walls on many commercial structures such as department stores on the end of shopping malls.

It would have been nice for them to design a canopy covering the roadway between the parking garage and the terminal, like PDX has, or like STL was planning but ultimately scrapped.

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Any frequent flyers think this new terminal seems kind of small? It just looks oddly small to me. Maybe it doesn't need to be any bigger, but for a major mid sized airport, it just looks small for a modern single terminal. And not having a couple of covered ped bridges from the garage to the terminal just screams to me that this thing is going to be built "cheaply". It's going to be a bare bones terminal. It will be better than the current KCI, but this won't be anything to brag about once it's open.

Doesn't this still have a two-tiered arrival/departure roadway? Meaning, if you don't want to walk across the 20 uncovered feet on the level shown in the rendering, you could simply cross the street on the lower level and take an escalator/elevator upstairs?

I'm more concerned that the soldier reunited with this child is suddenly alone and on the phone trying go back through security.
