It was a sad affair. That said, a 12 year old who rides the Verruckt probably is taking a considerably greater risk going to and from the park in his parents car.

So dumb. I hate petitions for this sort of crap. If you don't want to ride it - fine. If you don't want others to be able ride it* - go screw yourself.

*I would never get on that thing.

This ride would never fly off if they never added the 2nd hill which I thought all the problems were coming from, all they needed to do was make it the worlds tallest for the awe factor then just make the one huge hill and make it level off until you slowed down.
The other two riders in the same raft suffered head injuries and their straps didn't come off. The kid that was killed was at the front, with the others behind him. So this all points to the raft going airborne and hitting into the netting/supports for the netting. The kid hit first and hardest, with the others more or less lightly hitting the same netting. Otherwise only the kid would have been hurt (If it was the straps fault).

I'm going to guess the kid went airborne and hit the ladies.

guessing/hoping schlit instantly put an 8-figure settlement check into the family's hands. just a horrendous accident and it looks like the park had loads of notice beforehand, which a jury would hammer them for.

They're getting a Grinders, Frontier Justice, and "Construction is moving ahead on a carwash that Schlitterbahn will operate. A fast-food restaurant will operate inside the carwash. Steve Sessions of Basehor will be the manager of the restaurant."

So not only are they looking into a convention center and hotel in Village West (that WyCo should have required been built as part of the casino) AND in the Village South development? Are people bright enough to only proceed with one of these developments?

The Village South development won't have a convention center and hotel. Just a couple of new (smaller) hotels.

The Wyandotte Daily article specifically says they are being looked at for Village South.

Not to get too caught up in semantics, but I read "hotels and a conference center" different than "convention center." A conference center could just mean a meeting room they rent. Not the same as a full blown convention center hotel complex like in Overland Park or downtown. But I agree the need may not be there yet for all those rooms.

The Co-Owner has been arrested in connection to the Verruckt death. I think there is a decent chance Schlitterbahn just pulls out of Kansas in the next couple years. They probably got a bunch of money to build the thing, why even bother with operating in another state when all your other locations are in Texas. I'm sure someone will take it over, the city could even end up taking it over if they can't find someone to run the place.

I think there is more than a decent chance that they don't even open the park this year. The place is tainted and the owners seem liker clueless yahoos.

From one of the most amazing, ambitious, and exciting plans on paper for the KC theme park, to this. The whole story would make a fascinating documentary.

I would also expect if this park closes not because of bankruptcy that they take the rides and move them or sell them and it becomes really hard to reopen at that point.

Really would like to know what happened to those ambitious plans (like the year-round indoor water rides) beyond the lame "the recession happened." It sounded so cool when they first announced it. Oceans of Fun ought to buy it and rebrand it.

I wish they would tear down the structure ASAP. It sticks out so much and its kind of eerie driving by it.

Another higher up in the company was just arrested in Texas for unrelated charges to the KS incident, and I think something else just happened at one of the Texas parks as well on top of all of this. It sounds like the company has a bumpy road ahead of them...
