I assume lower parking entrance and some spaces will be gone too. CG will move to old Willians Sonoma space which is a much better location.
I hear its actually the Williams Sonoma + Tesla + Plaza Customer Service spots.

Why don’t they just give them the Plaza III space? It’s already built out as a steakhouse and I can’t imagine them being very busy. If so, the clientele should be dying off soon.

I still don't get how nordstroms can take up two places completely across the street from each other. No one else seems bothered by this so I must be missing something, but my brain isn't processing it.

^Just got back in KC and haven't' been following closely but I'm under the impression Nordstroms will apparently target the W end of theaters/Capital Grill space and the theaters will shrink to just Seville Sq.

A smaller Nordstroms may make sense on many levels. It's their service that stands out and the products would rotate more often, which may encourage repeat visits especially from those who get hooked on the services. There's more often 'something new' to offer if rotating products regularly. And if any traditional dept store has a chance with higher income Millennials it might be Nordstroms as such Millennials live in a world of services and disposable/consumable/temporary goods (like wearables and beauty products) rather than accumulating lots of stuff like McMansion Boomers.

Adapting to Millennials...

Thank you. I honestly had no idea and was very confused. I need to leave downtown more. :/

Interesting article on cnbc about malls fighting for retailers. They spend a significant amount of the article on the recent announcement by Nordstrom to move to the plaza.

Word is that Nordstrom will tear down the Capital Grille building (maybe more) and construct an entirely new building..
https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/ ... ation.html
“I heard the same thing — Nordstrom moving to the Cap Grille site,” said Drew Quinn, an investment broker who specializes in retail for Colliers International’s Kansas City office, adding that he's not sure how much of the Capital Grille space and adjoining garage and retail space to the north will be torn down to make room for the new Nordstrom store.

The retailer will be "constructing a store from the ground up," said Brenna Sussman, a corporate communications specialist for Nordstrom. She declined to provide additional details.

Cinemark’s lease on the theater space is set to expire in 2019.
Asked why he thought Nordstrom was moving to the Plaza, Shaffer pointed to multiple reasons.

For one, Nordstrom, which has been experimenting with smaller storefronts and opened its first 3,000-square-foot “showroom style” store in Los Angeles last year, may have been driven by a desire to downsize in this market, Shaffer said.

Second, Shaffer said, “they may want to do a higher-end store.”

In addition, he added, the Plaza’s new owners may have put an attractive deal on the table to regain the ability to attract new tenants that want to be near an upscale department store. The Plaza lost that type of asset in 2014, when Halls, a department store that had called the Plaza home for nearly 50 years, moved into a new 60,000-square-foot space in Crown Center.

If they are doing some demo/construction, I wouldn't mind seeing the portion of the garage that fronts 47th St being removed and replaced with retail or mixed-use. The Bank of America drive through also seems like a good candidate to be removed.

I'm not sure why they would want to fight for this building. It's pretty ugly(could be worse) and imho it doesn't go along with The rest of the plaza.

It is definitely interesting that they refer to Oak Park Mall as a "B" class mall while the Plaza is considered an "A" class mall. I wonder if ten years ago Oak Park Mall was considered a "B" class mall?

There have been a number of worthy issues prior to this where they were totally absent/silent and now suddenly this is a transgression worthy of resistance?

They continue to demonstrate that they are basically a NIMBY front group exclusively against developments in and around the plaza area...

TBF that tweet doesn’t say anything. But given their track record on the Plaza it would be surprising if they are gearing up to support the project.

Their total focus on the Plaza and “nice” areas of town used to irk me until they showed up in Westport. Now I actually think it’s better when they aren’t involved.

Seeing as the west wing of the theater is from the late 90s, they really don't have a leg to stand on. Of course, when has that ever stopped them?

Considering the shitfest that was a bank that’s had 8 facelifts and 3/4 of a block of parking lot, it wouldn’t surprise me. I’m sure they will say they don’t care about the current building as much as maintaining the character, scale, and density of the Plaza.

It seems like people are really hating on it in St Louis, complaining about small patties and overpriced food. I absolutely love Shack Shack but maybe its not a good fit for the Midwest where people seem to value Quantity over Quality. Shake Shack has some amazing chicken sandwiches in addition to burgers.
