OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)
Finally! the Star is reporting that the PCB building, at 2100 wyandotte, should be coming down by Christmas. The final notifications go out mid october, with "surgical demolition" slated to begin about 5 weeks after that. I've seen lots of EPA folks in and out all summer, and all utilites have been rerouted already. It is going to be interesting to see how they tear down a massive 7 story building in a busy area with no dust getting into neighboring residential and commercial spaces.
Are you sure we're talking about the same God here, because yours sounds kind of like a dick.

yes it will be an empty lot for awhile....I'll take an empty lot over a 7 story structure full of harmful chemicals. This building was impeding development and something will go there.

Re: OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)
I'm not sure what the plans are at the moment. The land and building are so contaminated that I don't think it could even be sold at this point. Since its between my buidling at the stuart hall building, I'd be happy if they plant grass and leave it as green space for a few months. I believe long term plans are some combo of parking/retail/residential. It really is a prime location, so I doubt it will sit vacant for long.

it's probably just more expensive to clean it up than to simply tear it down (not including what it would cost to renovate it). I actually think it's interesting (in a morbid way) and provides some contrast to the buildings around it. It could have made a great museum for modern art in another city at another time.......(i could see big spaces inside with bright murals covering the outside walls).......

actually I think it's impossible to clean up. The toxins are in the walls/ceiling/floors and can't be occupied with those toxins in there.

What other contaminants are found in buildings (other than asbestos and lead paint)?

Re: Boutique Condos In Freighthouse - Arterra 21
It'll take about 6 months to complete the demolition, since they cannot release dust into the air. They are putting up the scaffolding around the building right now.
Funny incident: Since most of my windows face this building, I technically don't have neighbors who can see into my loft, so I've gotten used to having the blinds open, and not worrying about being seen. I forgot about the scaffolding going up. A couple weeks ago, when I got up in the morning, I stumbled to the windows (9 ft. tall), and pulled up the blinds, only to see 3 construction workers diectly across the street, looking right at me! I'm not sure who was more surprised, me seeing the workers so close, or them seeing me with nothing on!!
The scaffolding is kind of cool though. I think the building will come down almost brick by brick. It'll be fun to watch.

A massive 7-story building like that is going to leave one big hole in the urban landscape....kind of like an adult losing a molar.
What is going in it's place?

Highlander no one knows what's going to be there at the moment but hopefully something new and big if not at least a ?Fountain? I've heard a few times that it might just become a big water feature. I wonder if there is any truth in that.
