no.

public involvement for the "main street extension" (now the official project name) begins this month.

also, an RFI will be issued soon to solicit alternative delivery proposals: https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/ ... ation.html

So no vote until any possible RFI options come back to help flesh out the funding we'd be voting on?

Sounds like things are being handled well. Key thing would be good publicity on this. Don't want people thinking a delay in the last election means things are going badly.

What’s the expected outcome to this? And do we expect the city-wide rail vote ordinance to cause any significant delay in phase 2?

main street extension enters the federal transit administration's "project development" process: http://kcstreetcar.org/fta-pd/

good news for federal funding. not a guarantee of any grant, but this is step one.

Congrats to all involved.
KC Council throws out vote, so streetcar expansion can move toward UMKC, riverfront
The council’s 10-2 vote was based on advice from city attorneys, who said the measure as written had legal issues that exposed the city to possible lawsuits.
Proponents of the move said that while the ordinance approved Thursday strips out the legally problematic portions of the ballot question, it retains the requirement of a citywide election for future expansion of the system.

However, it defines “future” as any expansion beyond the ones currently envisioned. That effectively grandfathers the UMKC and waterfront plans out of the reach of opponents.

So Dave or someone in loop, please recap a bullet point summary of remaining hurdles/steps/conditions to pull trigger for expansion.

Summer Funding Election: TDD was formed. Board Members elected. Now they must approve a tax on the TDD

Federal Funding Approval: The project, as I know it, requires significant federal funding to begin. Unless a PPP was used that got around this.

Design: Determine Station Locations, Which lanes to run in, service demands, etc. I believe this needs to be completed before we apply for Federal Funds

More here on funding both extensions...
https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/ ... p-rfi.html
The three-quarter-mile extension north to Berkley Riverfront Park is expected to cost $32 million. The Streetcar Authority and KCATA hope to fund the project with a combination of support from Port KC and federal funding in the form of a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery program (TIGER) grant.

The 3.5-mile extension south down Main Street is estimated to cost $250 million. Those estimates will be updated once a study of the extension led by HDR Engineering is completed. Because Kansas City voters approved the formation of a transportation development district (TDD) through a mail-in election in the fall, funds from that district could be used to support construction of the extension.

Wouldn't this need to be completed before the TDD tax election? Seems residents would want to know what exactly they are getting before voting a tax for themselves.
