Do we really have to say that Maincor has done anything big for Main Street?
Absolutely. 39th/Main used to be a major drug exchange. It still has its issues but has cleaned up significantly compared to before MainCor.

From MainCor's Website
The Main Street Corridor Development Corporation (MainCor) is the champion and leading community partner of Kansas City's Main Street Corridor working to support commercial, mixed use and residential progress and effective and responsible community, economic and aesthetic development that create and encourage the renewal and vitality of Midtown.

If they are basing it off of this then they have done absolutely nothing

As for the major drug exchange, it may have just moved areas within Midtown. I could see the area by the Plasma Center as being a major trade area.

I mean this was just on the news last week and they complained about dirty used needles near 36th/Central - http://fox4kc.com/2017/12/08/metro-man- ... lic-areas/

Fair to say that CIDs pushes things around but if you knew Main before MainCor, it has significantly improved (unless you like redlight districts that it used to be in the 80s). Before downtown CID formed, downtown streets were practically run by street people. MainCor is maybe not quite as effective but much better with them than w/out. An older close friend lives at 41st/Walnut and is glad to have them compared to what is was before.

Back to the new development... Given the significant investment, I could see them working with MainCor to help out with keeping 39th/Main 'stabilized'.

^ You’re claiming causation between Maincor and the change in the city from the 80s to today?? :)

Not entirely but a part of the bigger picture. And the answer is not kicking out troublemakers necessarily, mixing things up with a helping hand for order tends to improve the bigger picture, which is what happened to downtown. A combo on investments, various mixes of demographics and CID helping keep things inline.

Main has been better with MainCor than not and with these investments including streetcar, it could take it to next step and perhaps be as effective as downtown CID.

Here’s my main problem with Maincor then I’ll let it rest: It seems that everything they do is in their best interests and keeping tight with those who can fund them. It’s a kickback organization in that sense. They go along with Shields and Historic KC, don’t fight building tear downs happening as we speak, cash the check from the Fed and have a meeting to call it all good. They’ve done no good compared to the money and opportunity they’ve had.

^Name any organization that is perfect, especially a city-related org. Such issues should be cleaned up but apparently the businesses along it agree Main has been better with MainCor than w/out or it would be gone by now.

So yeah, back to the development and Collison's piece...

Alkazar Apartments? I kind of assumed that was a low income/halfway house. Am I wrong?

‘Canary’ Landing at Netherland, New Bar/Bistro Concept by Julep Owners
Canary, a new bistro and bar concept by the creators of Julep, will be the showpiece tenant of the newly-opened Netherland apartment and hotel building on Main Street.
...
Architect Caleb Buland also is thrilled to have Canary as the anchor commercial tenant at his redevelopment of the historic Netherland. He’s also pleased he’s leased 50 apartments since opening in April.
...
The 10-story Netherland, a derelict, eyesore property on Main for many years, also has a small, 10- to 20 room boutique hotel that will be run by Clemons Property Management, the same firm that operates Southmoreland on the Plaza.

Buland and his firm, EXACT Architects, began renovating the Netherland and the Monarch Storage building next door into apartments about two years ago. The Netherland has about 110 units, the Monarch which will have a soft opening next month, 34.
...
Many of the Netherland apartments rent for under $1,000 per month, and Buland said at this point he expects to finish initial lease up of the lofts by mid summer but studios and one bedrooms will still be available.

The Netherland features a spacious rooftop bar with 360-degree views of downtown, the Country Club Plaza and Midtown.

The Monarch Lofts are now available according to the Netherland Facebook Page. The Monarch has it's own Facebook page. The photos of the one unit they have looks good. Anyone know how leasing is doing at the Netherland?

Look at this neat old building that sat north of the Monarch building.
