Bike Lanes
Re: Bike Lanes
LOL. this is why this is the show-me state. The ordinance was held for some reason for another week by Reed.
Re: Bike Lanes
he's waiting on more information from public works, even though this is just changing the source of funds and nothing else about the plan.kboish wrote:LOL. this is why this is the show-me state. The ordinance was held for some reason for another week by Reed.
i knew something was fishy when there was no sponsor attached.

The folks against bike lanes on grand are scary powerful.

"Show-Me" is actually synonymous with being stubborn. I've heard it used in that context more than being open to enlightenment in the face of overwhelming evidence.pash wrote:People keep saying this, but my experience suggests that empirical evidence is less likely to persuade Missourians than people in other places.kboish wrote:LOL. this is why this is the show-me state.

I'm glad something is getting done, but it's a shame to see them backing down from the original vision.
Does anyone know if these will be buffered or not?

They weren't buffered in the original plan and I don't think it changed.tower wrote:I'm glad something is getting done, but it's a shame to see them backing down from the original vision.

Re: Bike Lanes
it's not 100% buffered, but most of grand is. here are the design plans: https://data.kcmo.org/Transportation/Fi ... /6phz-6gj8tower wrote:I'm glad something is getting done, but it's a shame to see them backing down from the original vision.

Re: Bike Lanes
Important to note also that only Grand will be striped this year--remainder of project remains delayed at least until spring 2018.

Re: Bike Lanes
I counted and a rider going NB from 20th to 5th can expect the lane setup to change 20 times in 15 blocks. In some places the design changes twice in the same block.DaveKCMO wrote:it's not 100% buffered, but most of grand is. here are the design plans: https://data.kcmo.org/Transportation/Fi ... /6phz-6gj8tower wrote:I'm glad something is getting done, but it's a shame to see them backing down from the original vision.

It's certainly better but the city came up with a plan that's going to get complaints almost immediately.
My favorite is in some blocks cars cross the bike lane before the corner and turn right from the right of the bike lane but on some they turn right from the left of the bike lane. That's going to create so many problems as drivers try to figure out where to go to turn. Consistency would help a lot here.

I think that's the city motto.flyingember wrote:Consistency would help a lot here.
Re: Bike Lanes
Mostly buffered is better than no buffer, I guess.
If we were going to do a cycletrack on a street Grand may not be the best choice anyway. It would be difficult to extend through midtown, since the streetcar will be on Main, and Grand really only connects to Main. It would be nice to have a cyletrack from RM to the Plaza
Probaly not in the original city plan, but I mean the "Make Grand Grand" plan, which would've made a two way cycletrack on one side of the street.flyingember wrote: They weren't buffered in the original plan and I don't think it changed.

Is there a car driving in the bike lane in that clip?
