Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand
I had to blow up the photo and look much closer, but I think I found what moderne is talking about. All the places where the concrete extends out are the balconies, I'm guessing.taxi wrote:Wherefore art thou, Juliet?flyingember wrote:You can see the balconies on the south side in the latest photo, a few posts above yours.moderne wrote:There are balconies on the north side, not on the east or south, just sliding doors into nothingness.

Those projections appear to be temporary scaffold (safety?) as they have moved up a floor with the continued construction in the two photos.

I went by it today. Those aren't temporary unless seamless concrete is.
There's also two floors of them

What about all the floors directly below where the glass sliders are installed, but no balcony?

Are these to make it possible to retrofit balconies when/if the loop is capped?

Six more floors to go. You can actually see it now at 30th & Main peeking out above the Westin.

This looks stunning -- the empty surface parking lots in downtown KCMO are beginning to fill in. I know a lot has been discussed around the all glass facade but think it fits into the area really well.

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand
I like the color of the glass. Nothing else like that downtown although it's similar to the Sprint Center. Two Light is considerably different from One light, so if Cordish continues with at least making them different, I don't think the wall thing will be a huge deal. I think all the "One Light, Two Light, Three Light, signs may be a bigger issue. You can't really get around having a "wall" with the interstate there, but the city should put lots of pressure on the Cordish to do as much as they can change up the designs. It could turn out nice to have a line of new towers from Grand over to the new convention hotel. A 40 story office tower east of Grand is what KC really needs to change the skyline. Cerner....

It would be interesting to see a picture of the same area twenty years ago. I think it's amazing how far downtown has come and I can't wait to see the skyline five years from now when three, four light are completed as well as the new convention center hotel.
I agree that what we need next is a new large office tower.

^You can't really prevent the wall but they can mix things up. Cordish could procure external building materials used in projects with other cities to get economies of scale.
