early renderings that aren't promises, but you can expect a mix of materials that make it look like separate buildings.mister816 wrote:Is it brick? Glass? Some kind of facade? C'mon, give up the deets.DaveKCMO wrote:saw the preliminary renderings. looks good!

Re: And here we go again... Midwest Hotel to be demolished
Am subscribed. Sounds like it will be a high quality project with urban minded developers. Claims it will have '5-star hotel amenities'. Xroads needs several more of these for remaining surface lots. Hopefully this developer will pursue more lots. One concern though, downtown may be getting a bit top heavy with many high end luxury units coming online. This project will also have some affordable units (doesn't say what %), am guessing maybe some units won't have parking so will go for below market rate. Is there enough demand to keep building more luxury around downtown at this pace?

^Likely not many new until market conditions right. Renting is still 'in' nationwide.

I saw these renderings online. Didn't appear that they had been linked here.

It's there! If you look closely, they incorporate it (and others) into the new complex.JBmidtown wrote:Wait are they demolishing the Midwest hotel then? And where's the retail on Walnut??

It is hard to say from the renderings how the finishings on this building will look (if it does get build as shown). I think this could look phenomenal, or it could look garish and totally out of place. I will at least give them credit for doing something interesting, and I think it will turn out nice.
I do really wish they could have incorporated more of the original buildings, or at least their facades, but I imagine that would be cost prohibitive.
Here is a better look at that corner view (Midwest Hotel building in white):

I knew it was a big project but that is impressive.

I like it because it's not a bland development. It has visual interest and color.

Great project size and mass but I hate all of the colors in the rendering.
Outside the box is fine, and the Crossroads could use some splash but all that lime and green in the rendering is wack.
It looks garish from the 20th St side. KC has a style that's edgy but doesn't try hard to be "edgy" if that makes sense.
Classic and legendary is our true style, I hope if built the colors are toned down some.
If/when this project begins construction I would like to see the city consider building a Gateway Sign/Arch for the Crossroads District on Main @ 20th.
Something similar to the City Market sign (classic) but more arts appropriate for the Crossroads.
Having lived in San Diego the neighborhood signage there is very cool.
