UGLY SIGN....

Post by nota »

...they have put in a new sign at the entrance to Zona Rosa off Barry.

It is a tall thing with some aqua glass and chrome letters. Not really attractive at all. And it is right behind a light pole coming from the east so it isn't even really noticeable.

Has anyone else seen it?

I saw it the other day....I didn't think it was ugly. I didn't mind it, but I can see how you would say it could be easily missed.

Maybe ugly is a little strong. It just looks like they could have done a lot better for a sign for such a place. And it just blends into the other flotsam and jetsam in that area.

Isn't it just a mess there with visual clutter?

I thought it was pretty good for drawing attention without being tacky. But I'm only up there a few times a month, so it doesn't blend in so much for me.

I was by there the other day and took a shot of it with my cell phone camera (so excuse the poor quality).

Does it glow or have any lighting at night?

I think it looks kind of like a medicine container.

No, thank you.  I would prefer to have clowns fondle me.

The letters ZONA ROSA don't show up at all against the background till you are very close to it.

I'm going back to my original assessment. UGLY.

I saw it today about an hour before sunset. With the light shining through it it was hard to read... what I first made out looked like it said "70 N"... I thought it was a bulsing number or something.

I was there in the AM and the sign was the same as you saw in the PM.

Hard to read. It doesnt' do well at serving the purpose a sign is supposed to serve-identifying the place.

IMHO, a place like ZR needs a more impressive sign anyway.

That sign reminds me of the chrome kitchen tables and chairs we had when we were kids. Or of a diner.

Are you sure the sign is finished? There's an organe fence around it so maybe they're still working on it and it WILL light up at night. (I hope)

IMO, the sign just needs a few small changes...

1. Tear it down
2. Re-think the design
3. Put up a better sign

See? It's not that bad! LOL

Yeah, why couldn't they have done something classy like this:

That's why the plaza sucks. They need a big neon sign so I know where to turn.

Kind of looks like something from vintage 1960s Las Vegas, which we all know just exuded class. :)

I think you're missing the JOKE of my post. #-o Would that sign fit in Platte County??? No.....THAT'S THE JOKE. Get it?

As for Grandview...you can trash all on it all you want. It's not where I live. I'm not far from Grandview, but I'm much closer to State Line Road. Although, I must admit...even though Grandview isn't Johnson County, it's not Mid-Town Kansas City either.
