No illumination in the glass cupola? Without lighting it disappears. The way the interior of the lantern is illuminated the details of the glass sunburst design are lost.

I really hope they plan to do white most of the time.
Anyone know if they plan to rotate the lighting with white, red, and green like they used to??

Re: P&L Building
My window on the 28th floor of One Kansas City Place looks directly onto the Power & Light steeple -- there is a dim (250 watts at most) red lamp, illuminated both day and night, in the middle of the tower section with the ornate windows. It's barely noticeable from the street. They should replace this with a much more powerful lamp -- 1000 watts or more -- and that is elevated another 15 feet to the upper part of the window with the sunburst element. There is no lamp in the cupola section that I can discern.moderne wrote:No illumination in the glass cupola? Without lighting it disappears. No idea, but this shows that green is accounted for.Midtownkid wrote:I really hope they plan to do white most of the time.

Re: P&L Building
There was red neon inside the glass cupola and inside the glass sunbursts on the sides.

Neon up until the ownership change. Can't confirm what's in there currently, but some of the neon transformers and tubes were out, even as early as a few years ago. It's definitely the best quality of illumination in my opinion.KCPowercat wrote:Didn't there used to be neon lining the top of the latern? It's been so long now I've forgotten
Re: P&L Building
Well, someone has changed the light color. It is now green. It has been a dim red lamp for many weeks, but today I am looking at it and it is indeed green. Still dim.
Re: P&L Building
I have 2 huge copper fixtures with green lenses that came from there. I had my doubts when I bought them 14 years ago, but I've seen pictures taken from the top and they match some of the ones that were there.
